About the adventure

A death curse sweeps across the lands, harvesting souls to feed an evil god while drawing the world into darkness and doom. The curse seems to be coming from deep below a lost city within the forbidding jungles of Chult. Somebody should do something about that. That's where you come in... So, grab your adventuring gear, pray to all of the deities, and prepare yourself for a thrilling expedition deep into the jungle in search of the Tomb of Annihilation! *** Tomb of Annihilation is a fantastic level 1-12 campaign that hits on all of the pillars of play--action, exploration, and roleplay--and has provided some of the coolest and funnest gaming memories I've had in four decades of playing RPGs. I'd love for you to experience it as well. Join for the campaign of a lifetime!

About me

Hello. My name is Shane. I was introduced to RPGs when I was 12 years old and was hooked from my very first session. I have been playing and running RPGs, on and off, for the past four decades and hope to continue for many more! I have run many different games and genres, but my favorite is fantasy RPGs. My GM strengths are involving players, improvising scenes, and game pacing. I have run games for a wide variety of players over the years. By my rough count, I have gamed with over 500 people and completed 31 longform campaigns. Finally, I would be honored to be your GM and take you on the adventure of a lifetime!

Character creation

Creating your character

Your characters will begin play at 1st level and will be built using Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) or Point Cost (27 points) for Ability Scores. Notes about mixing 5e and 5.5e content: If there is a 5e option that is not available in 5.5e, you may select the 5e option. If any disparity exists, we’ll default to 5.5e rules, e.g., if there is a feature that exists in both 5e and 5.5e and their mechanics are different--we’ll use the 5.5e version The following sources are your primary 5.5e character building options: - Player's Handbook - Heroes of Faerun Additionally, these 5e sources may be used if there is no 5.5e equivalent. Please let me know if you intend on using material from any of these sources: - Mordenkainen’s Monsters of the Multiverse - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything - Xanathar's Guide to Everything Some notable character creation differences between 5e and 5.5e: Species (previously races) in older books include ability score increases. If you use a species from a 5e book, ignore those increases and use only the ones given by your background. Backgrounds in 5e books don’t include ability score adjustments. If you’re using a background from an older book, adjust your ability scores by increasing one score by 2 and a different one by 1, or increase three scores by 1. None of these increases can raise a score above 20. Also, if the 5e background you choose doesn’t provide a feat, you gain an Origin feat of your choice. Lastly, we’ll be using Roll20’s character sheet for this campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a desktop or laptop computer with a dedicated microphone for Discord voice chat. You'll also need a Discord account and a Roll20 account (both are free). Please note, Roll20 works best on a computer and doesn't work very well on a phone or tablet. You don't need to know how to play D&D, use Roll20, or Discord to join this game. I'll guide you through onboarding and make it easy to join this campaign. While it will be helpful if you already have rulebooks and/or know how to play--you don't need to. This is a perfect campaign for complete beginners!

What Shane brings to the table

Safety

How Shane creates a safe table

I'll provide a Consent in Gaming checklist to establish our Lines & Veils. We'll discuss this during Session 0. We'll take a 10-minute bio break at the session's halfway point. I actively encourage player feedback during Stars & Wishes and will use that information to provide an exceptional player experience.
