About the adventure

As a new adventurer, you enter a forest village looking to make a name for yourself. You are excited to heed the call for help. But you instead are greeted with distant stares as the remaining villagers mourn those they have lost. The dangers of the surrounding forest are perhaps greater than you anticipated. But rather than discouragement, you hold your head up higher. You will bring hope to these people who need it. You will right the wrongs they have suffered. And this is only the start of your journey. This campaign will run the first 5 chapters of Dragon Delves, a module designed to feature dragons in a high fantasy setting. This is a game designed to introduce players to the 2024 D&D rules as well as increasing your storytelling skills. Both are equally emphasized to give a well-rounded experience. Each chapter presents a different adventure, with their own themes, moods, and challenges. Adaptation and creative solutions will be how your character not only survives, but grows into the hero they were meant to be.

About me

I've been playing and GMing TTRPGs since 2001. The majority of my experience as both player and GM is with the World of Darkness and Dungeons & Dragons. But I have dabbled in a variety of other systems. In addition to TTRPGs I have been a Ren Faire actor from 2011 until 2021. I also participate in a monthly World of Darkness LARP since 2016 to this day. These experiences have helped me to develop more advanced improvisational skills and story pacing. I can quickly read my audience as they react to my performance and make adjustments to further enhance the story. I have a Bachelors in English Literature and am an avid consumer of books as well as media. I've spent the past two years looking for content creators online that speak about the mechanics of storytelling to further educate myself. As part of my IRL job experience, I have developed strong organizational skills as well. I work for a nonprofit mental health company. I focused on providing therapeutic support to youths until 2021 when I switched to a project management position. Tracking schedules, data, and deadlines while maintaining strong communication is what I do for a living and I bring that to the game table. As part of my LARP club I have been responsible for maintaining and enforcing out-of-character safety mechanics. Combined with the therapeutic training I've received I am highly proficient in maintaining a safe and open space for storytelling to flourish while respecting boundaries.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a free session 0 to build characters together. Come with 2-4 archetypal high fantasy concepts that interest you. As a group we will find the right balance of storytelling fun for the whole table. Do not build the character sheets ahead of session 0. We will use the session to go over the character creation rules as a group. 2024 Player's Handbook (PHB) only. Characters will start at level 1 using standard character creation rules. Attribute will be determined via standard point-buy. Characters will use the standard starting equipment for their class (with substitutions allowable based on story need).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Sessions will be conducted via Discord video chat. Characters sheets will be created on D&D Beyond. Both require free accounts. We will use Owlbear Rodeo for digital maps. You do not need to make a free account to be a player, but it is encouraged.

What Geo Giannetti brings to the table

Because this is a beginner's game, I will be sticking very closely to the rules as they are written in order to help teach the system. The goal is to enhance your general understanding of the rules while learning the specifics of your character's abilities. But combat isn't everything you will find in Dungeons and Dragons. Creating a backstory that is integrated into the setting and role playing out the consequences of your choices will be emphasized as well. Telling a solid story will create higher stakes for you as a player, which enhances game play. You will receive a link to my Discord server when you join the adventure. You will also receive a link to a google form of Monte Cooks lines & veils. You will receive a link to the campaign on D&D Beyond, which includes free access to a digital copy of the 2024 Player's Handbook. I use ambient music via Kenku FM to help set atmosphere. You can use digital or physical dice, whichever is your preference. There will be space on the Discord server for players to take notes. I also use the channels to put information, such as pictures of NPC's or what loot you've uncovered. Each chapter should take 2 sessions to complete. Each chapter has levels associated with each of them. There is ample opportunity to gain loot. There will also be downtime between chapters for player characters. Chapter 1: Levels 1 and 2 Chapter 2: Level 3 Chapter 3: Level 4 Chapter 4: Level 5 and 6 Chapter 5: Level 7 and 8

Safety

How Geo Giannetti creates a safe table

Prior to session 0 I will ask players to fill out the Monte Cooks Lines & Veils document. During session 0 we will review this document and discuss any further topics or concerns players have. X, N, and O's will be digital in the Discord chat or in DM's during the game session. Open Door will also be used as needed. We will end each game session with Aftercare as well as Stars and Wishes to help bring us back into the real world and to address any issues that arose during play. And to highlight favorite moments as well!!
