About the adventure
Tales from the Yawning Portal is a collection of modules that span the history of Dungeons and Dragons, with publishing dates range from 1978 to 2014. Together, the campaign provides a great look into the evolution of dungeon delves across the many editions of D&D. I chose to place my iteration of the campaign in Gary Gygax's world of Greyhawk where most of the modules were originally set. Characters begin seeking jobs as adventurers through a man named Durnan. I add in-game time skips so the party can explore their own stories between jobs. Groups can make these time skips as sandboxy as they wish. This typically lasts 1-3 sessions before the party embarks on their next adventure. Bastions can be built during this time. The adventures increase in risk and consequences as players level up. Sometimes these consequences lead to events during the time skip sessions. Enemies will be made. This allows a narrative to grow directly from character choices, like in sandbox games. This campaign is great for players that enjoy risky, narrative driven combat where characters get to use powerful items. My DM style places story and fun over realism. I am generous with loot and like making fun of fascists.

About me
Welcome! My name is Mae and I love creating memorable tabletop experiences. D&D was love at first sight for me. I watched a single episode of a stream and by the end of the week I had a DMG. Another week later and I was attacking my friends' characters with goblins as they tried to take some trade goods to Phandalin. That adventure and many more since then have helped me to learn about myself, support myself and follow my dreams. It brings me great joy to inspire creativity in others as our journeys cross paths above the board. Many of the aspects I now know about myself were learned through gaming. The freedom my initial DM provided allowed me to explore my identity. I embraced my queerness, gained confidence in my storytelling skills, came to understand the importance of safe spaces in fostering inner growth, and discovered that I love teamwork so long as proper boundaries are communicated. It is my goal to create a safe table so players can enjoy the very freedom that helped me to grow so much.
View Profile βCharacter creation
Creating your character
π Character creation is preferred to be on DND Beyond, but other means are also acceptable. π² I use an improved standard array (17, 16, 15, 13, 11, and 9) β Characters will start at Level 1 with three common items.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
π A microphone is required. I do not use a webcam myself and do not expect any players to do so, although it is not discouraged either. π² Digital dice will be used, either through D&D Beyond or Roll20.
What Mae brings to the table
π I will bring all of the current compendiums as well as maps and sound effects through Syrinscape.
Homebrew rules
β Flanking grants advantage β Healing potions can be used as an action to gain the full possible HP β Spiritual Weapons can be carried by the caster to prevent outrunning the Spiritual Weapon. The weapon must be within 5 feet of the caster to be moved this way.

How Mae creates a safe table
π² I strive to empower players to take any action within their capability. Players drive the action in this story. I consider the events of the published book as an outline but am open to tossing out the outline if that is what makes most sense for the story the characters craft. π² I have a lines and veils document open to players. This is also discussed during session zero. Player comfort is very important to me and my DMs are always open to players who need help or need to be heard.
