About the adventure

Someone or something important to you has gone missing. Their trail leads into the dreaded mists of Barovia, a cursed valley whispered about in fearful tavern stories. Sensible people would turn back. You, unfortunately, are not sensible people. Armed with determination, questionable judgment, and perhaps a little courage, you venture into the fog to bring them home. This adventure is a darkly comedic, outrageous one-shot where the tone swings between gothic horror and ridiculous improv. Expect strange situations, dramatic roleplay, and the kind of problems that escalate very quickly once Strahd gets bored. Important note: this game is meant to be chaotic and hilarious. You should absolutely plan for your character to die (after all, this is Faster Purple Worm!) Gloriously, tragically, or embarrassingly—preferably in a way everyone will remember. Bring a fun character, big personality, and a willingness to lean into the madness. Barovia has seen many heroes come and go… and it’s always happy to add a few more ghosts.

About me

🎲 Hi! I’m Laura. I'm a lifelong storyteller and DM who loves bold narration, fun character voices, and a little theatrical flair with sound and lighting. I’ve been telling stories for over 30 years, and I run games that are designed to be engaging, welcoming, and memorable. I care about good pacing, shared spotlight, and making sure the table feels welcoming and easy to settle into. I’ve had the privilege of learning from and playing alongside some truly exceptional Dungeon Masters in the industry, including B. Dave Walters (Stranger Things), Jason Carl (LA by Night), Monte Cook (D&D 3.5), Beth the Bard (She Is the Ancient), Kelly Lynne D’Angelo (Rivals of Waterdeep), and others. I’m deeply grateful for the chance to learn from so many different styles, systems, and approaches to storytelling. I run both crunchy and story-forward games, depending on what you’re looking for. I’m also known for putting playful twists on familiar worlds—think the Golden Girls in Barovia, a toy on a heroic quest, or other “wait, that actually works?” adventures. The goal is simple: great stories, real laughs, and sessions people can’t stop talking about. My tables are 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 inclusive and if you're new to RPGs, fear not! I absolutely love welcoming new people into our hobby. I offer D&D weekend getaways and private parties. Contact me for details! I am a lifelong educator, facilitator, and certified play practitioner. I love bringing games to team building events and companies too!

Character creation

Creating your character

Please create a level 1 character on DnDBeyond. All official sources allowed. Stats should be generated using Point Buy. Choose any race/class/background combination that fits your concept, but remember: this is a one-shot where death is inevitable, so feel free to go wild with your character concept. Think of this as your character's final (and possibly finest) hour.

What Dice Whisperer (aka Laura) brings to the table

As a GM, my style leans heavily into storytelling, improv, and humor. I love big character moments, silly accents, over-the-top drama, and giving players the space to shine, even if it’s just before they meet their tragic, hilarious end. I use character voices (especially for Strahd, obviously), ambient music, and the occasional sound effect for flavor. This is a one-shot designed for maximum laughs, minimal prep, and memorable chaos.

Safety

How Dice Whisperer (aka Laura) creates a safe table

Although this is a comedic, over-the-top one-shot, it still includes themes like death and manipulation. We’ll keep the tone light, but you’ll always have control over your experience. A short debrief afterward gives everyone space to share highlights, decompress, or just chat about how hilariously you met your doom. We use X cards and will do a check-in of lines and veils before we begin.
