About the adventure

Beginner friendly. Collaborative world building. The Drylands weren't much to write home about until the earthquakes a couple of years ago brought the glowing crystals we now know as essentia to the surface. Sure, there were a few settlements scattered around the place, but most of them were subsistence level farms and commercial operations mining for iron and other metals. Essentia changed everything. This energetic crystal proved to be versatile, easily acquired and very powerful. Nearly overnight, the Drylands flooded with fools, dreamers and hucksters, all digging for dreams in the arid landscape. And with them came the Old Faith, worshippers and preachers all claiming essentia was the Blood of the Gods. Now hastily formed companies are competing with older firms, in a race to pry as much essentia as they can from the earth before the God-touched descend on them. Now strange, monstrous creatures wander the land that have never been seen before. The earth trembles, and new veins of Essentia break through from time to time. Does something else stir beneath the earth? Only time will tell.

About me

Well met, travelers! Come in, make yourself at home. I’ve been telling stories since I learned to talk. Then, decades ago I discovered D&D and learned that other people could tell them with me. It was a revelation. Since then, I have run games, played games, learned games, and written for and about games. I’ve run many different systems, including but not limited to, D&D (3 editions worth), Traveler, World of Darkness, Champions, Mutants and Masterminds, FATE, and Modiphius’ 2d20. I’ve played many more, including Runequest, Superworld, Blades in the Dark, and others. My favorite tales involve dynamic, clever heroes. Would you know any, by chance?

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur in Session Zero. We will be creating first level characters. Be prepared to answer questions about your character and the part of the world they come from. We will confine ourselves to the Core rulebook for class and subclass selection. Be prepared to answer questions about people in your character's life, friendly or otherwise. How do they feel about you? Why? Do their feelings matter to you? Why?

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please complete, or at least look at, the Lines and Veils document prior to Session Zero. Have a few different ideas for characters you might want to explore, but please don't bring completed character to Session Zero. We will be running in Roll20, and using Discord for voice. Characters will be created in Demiplane, as Daggerheart hasn't released files for any VTT's yet.

What T.I.L.TE.D. Chris brings to the table

You can expect to see dynamic NPCs and factions. I strive to give each character their own voice and viewpoint. Your life choices will matter. Relationships may change as the campaign moves on. Reputations carry weight. I prefer Theater of the Mind combat, but there are some fights we may need maps for. I use the Rule of Cool where practical. If the action you describe is neat, fits your concept and power level, and paints a great picture, it has an excellent chance to work.

Safety

How T.I.L.TE.D. Chris creates a safe table

A Lines and Veils document will be provided before Session Zero. We will discuss that during the session. We will also be using the X card in play, and will discuss that in Session Zero as well. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me, and I will address them as soon as I can.
