About the adventure

From the Daggerheart website: "Welcome to Daggerheart, a new epic TTRPG from Darrington Press. Powered by an innovative card and Duality Dice design, Daggerheart blends tactical depth with narrative freedom, empowering each group to make the game their own." "Daggerheart is a system where GMs and players share in narrative worldbuilding, and every choice matters as the adventure hangs in the balance between hope and fear! With streamlined rules, 279 beautifully illustrated cards, easy onboarding for fast pick up and play, story-first mechanics, and more, Daggerheart is calling!" "This is how we play—with bold choices, unforgettable characters, and stories that last long after the dice and cards are put away. Now, it’s your turn." For this game, I'll be running the official Daggerheart QuickStart adventure, The Sablewood Messengers.

About me

I've been a D&D player since the days of 3.5 and returned to the game in 2023 and learned 5e. I've ran many one-shots for D&D, Bunkers and Badasses, and Obojima. I've also been in a Pathfinder 2e game campaign for nearly two years now. I started GM-ing as a volunteer at a local game store and loved doing it so much that I applied to become a professional GM with them and after an audition they hired me on. I started my professional GM career in 2025 and can't wait to broaden my horizons. I'm currently running an ongoing Dragonlance 5e campaign, paid one-shots, community volunteer one-shots, and an Obojima campaign for my friends and family. I own a license for Foundry VTT and host my own server. I have a considerable library of content on D&D Beyond and have been recently running games on their Maps VTT. I've been a Discord user since it's first year in service and have hosted and participated in live and play via post games. I'd also be willing to learn to use another platforms (i.e. Roll20, Mirrorscape, Owlbear Rodeo) if necessary. I'm eager to branch out on my professional GM career and hope that I can bring joy to your table.

Character creation

Creating your character

The Sablewood Messengers adventure includes five ready to play characters. The quick start kit which includes the characters is available to download at https://www.daggerheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Quickstart-Adventure-5-20-2025.pdf. Players are advised, however, to avoid reading the adventure material to avoid spoilers.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Download the quickstart kit which contains the character sheets at: https://www.daggerheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Quickstart-Adventure-5-20-2025.pdf You'll either need to print out the character sheet you want to use or use an app that will allow you to mark up a PDF file. You will also need a standard d20 set with an additional d12 of a different color. Daggerheart uses a dual d12 dice system so having two different colored d12 is required. Pencil and paper are also recommended.

What Travis Sluss brings to the table

I have already read through the materials to get a fundamental understanding of the core mechanics. I'll be using the quickstart kit available at https://www.daggerheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Quickstart-Adventure-5-20-2025.pdf to teach the game.
