About the adventure

You know Hunter Patterson, the up-and-coming mining boss who runs Camp Patterson, a small prospecting outfit along the Rio San Jose. He is tough and violent—not someone to cross—but has a reputation for paying his workers on time, mostly so they can spend their wages in his tented saloon, which passes for civilization at Camp Patterson. He drives them as hard as he drives himself, his only leisure being drinking whiskey and playing poker late into the night. But he’s been scammed. An Albuquerque woman called Nelly Austin played Patterson at cards, in what became a very late and very drunken session. Austin won big, taking Patterson’s stash of gold dust as her winnings, and then immediately rode out of camp. Patterson awoke with a head the size of a grizzly bear and an anger to match, shouting he’d been conned by Austin. He called you together and offered you each $50 if you’d ride to Albuquerque, chase down Nelly Austin and get Patterson’s gold back. That was two days ago. Now you’re riding into Albuquerque in the early morning sunshine. The town is bustling with people, horses, carts and wagons, under-employed soldiers from the local fort—and cattle and their rowdy cowhands. The southern herds are coming in, some to be sold from the corrals here, others to be driven further north. But wherever they are going, the town is busy, busy, busy. Tales of the Old West is based on the Year Zero Engine system used in many Free League Publishing games. The game uses a pool of 6 sided dice to determine the outcome of actions and the game is easy to pick up and start playing.
