About the adventure

Giants have emerged from their strongholds to threaten civilization as never before. Hill giants are stealing all the grain and livestock they can, while stone giants have been scouring settlements that have been around forever. Fire giants are press-ganging the small folk into the desert, while frost giant longships have been pillaging along the Sword Coast. Even the elusive cloud giants have been witnessed, their wondrous floating cities appearing above Waterdeep and Baldur’s Gate. Where is the storm giant King Hekaton, who is tasked with keeping order among the giants? The humans, dwarves, elves, and other small folk of the Sword Coast will be crushed underfoot by the onslaught of these giant foes. The only chance at survival is for the small folk to work together to investigate this invasion and harness the power of rune magic, and use the giants’ own power against them! This campaign will go through Storm King's Thunder for level 5-10, and then continue on through level 11-20 with the Dreams of the Red Wizards storyline, where the pcs work for the storm giant court against enemies such as Thay and the Cult of the Dragon. The entire campaign should last around 40-45 sessions (I have run this before in this time frame). From this campaign you can expect: epic GIANT fights, awesome loot with plentiful magic items, exploration all across Faerûn, and roleplaying with a menagerie of fun NPCs and creatures!

About me

Hello, I’m Dev! I’ve been a DM for seven years now, running both long term campaigns and one shots. I am very passionate about creating an immersive online experience, with great maps, music, and sound effects. I’ve been running online games for many years now, and feel very confident in my techniques and creating a fun and awesome game. I love running epic combats, high tier play, and role playing. Right now I am only running DnD 5e 2014 rules.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players need a working mic and access to a computer. The game will be held over discord and roll20, so you will need an account on both. Players will need to make their character sheet ahead of time in roll20 or dndbeyond. If dndbeyond, they will need to have the chrome extension beyond20.

What Dev Alva brings to the table

I work hard to provide an immersive online experience for my players. I use music and soundscapes to set the mood. I use imagery for theatre of the mind roleplay, and beautiful maps from various sources for combat and exploration. I am constantly improving my roll20 room with effects and visuals for you all to enjoy. I make sure to give everyone a chance for their character to shine, and play to their strengths and abilities. In my games you can expect challenging combat, great improvisation, and an immersive world to play in. I put player agency and involvement first, and I want to emphasize the fact that this game is a cooperative environment between myself and the players. If you love combat, this is the game for you! I run my games RAW, or rules as written. If you have a rules question for me that I haven't come across before or forgotten about, I will pause the game momentarily to look it up and make sure everything is according to the spirit of the rules. I reference Sage Advice/Jeremy Crawford tweets, but have my own opinions as well (such as the interpretation of magic missile, shield master feat, and dispel magic). I do allow one homebrew rule, where you can drink a potion as a bonus action. I do not use flanking rules.
