About the adventure
New Mydas is a Frankenstein'd megacity of various settings and ideas from media. Leaning heavily into the West Marches style, this is a player/community led setting. After a session establishing your character in the city, players can request storylines. I can accommodate any kind of session/story. We can play a more cozy hangout session where the party explores a festival and competes in a fun tournament for prizes and to make a name for themselves. Or we can jump into the seedy criminal/political underbelly of New Mydas and establish yourselves as a player in the innerworkings of the city. Or anything else you or I can dream up! The city itself is alive! With an almost "room of requirement"/deus ex machina homebrew mechanic called, "I know a guy..." Players can establish a character or place that they have met off-camera, whether it be in their past or during downtime. This is a mechanic that naturally refreshes for free every 4 sessions. Players can still make a related check to see if they "know a guy" but this mechanic is an auto success to establish an in world connection. Your first session after session 0 has the party establishing themselves as impromptu heroes during an attack on the Festival of the Firmament, a mid-decade festival celebrating the strengthening of the magical defenses of the city and a remembrance of those who have passed on before us. Future sessions are choose your own adventure! Explore storylines and tell me what you are interested in! My goals are to accommodate your interests! Other relevant information... -Drop in/Drop Out Style of game with a loose overarching story. -Player driven sessions with a living city and downtime. -Players can establish different characters for different kinds of sessions. -Biggest rules are the rule of cool, and don't be a jerk. We are here to have fun and there is a no tolerance policy for in and out of game harassment.

About me
Character creation
Creating your character
Your first character will be created during a discounted session 0. These sessions will be with a group, but can happen with as little as two players depending on signups/interest. Players will roll stats by rolling 18d6s, rerolling ones and mix and matching groups of three dice to create their 6 stats. Players will start at level 2, with a level up after your first full session. Characters will be created on DNDBeyond and since you will be starting at level 2 (meaning no starting subclass) and you will begin only using the 2024 Players Handbook and the Artificer class. Once you reach level three with a class, you may choose to use a subclass outside of the 2024 PHB if you bring it to me during level up and I approve it. But all subclasses printed in the 2024 Players Handbook are pre-approved.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I have a discord server that will start a bit locked up/barebones. As you play beyond session 0 and your first official session, the server will unlock. The only accounts you will need are Discord and DNDBeyond.
What Beau brings to the table
I am a bit new to GMing online, but as I gain more experience, I plan on implementing more "flashy" technology to the game. I do plan on using ambient music. Other than that, I am a huge fan of the Rule of Cool! If it is cool, and you roll well enough, I am generally willing to break the rules as written. But with the caveat that some things may be one offs because of the nature of the action, and your adversaries will also have access to any established ability or action.
Homebrew rules
Potions: Characters may drink a potion as a bonus action for a lessened/rolled effect or they can choose to use an action to get the full effect of the potion. Critical Hits: Critical hits are handled by maxing out the damage on the dice, and then rolling damage as usual. So if a player critical hits with an attack that would do 1d6+4 piercing damage, they would roll 1d6 as usual, but on top of adding the usual +4, they also add an additional 6 because of it being a critical hit. Critically Failing Saving Throws: If a creature critically fails a damage dealing spell that requires a saving throw, the spellcaster will use the above rules regarding a critical hit regarding their damage. If the target critically fails a saving throw for non-damage dealing spell, the effect of the spell will be enhanced depending on the spell. Death Saves: The big change I have to death saving throws is if you are brought back to consciousness and then dropped back below 0 before taking a long rest, you gain a level of exhaustion for each time after the first.

Safety
How Beau creates a safe table
During/after session 0, I will send a Lines/Veil doc to establish a baseline. During a session, we will be using a green/yellow/red system that can be used in the public discord chat, or can be sent to me privately. I have a no tolerance policy for players that are racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc.. In game, there can be NPCs (villains) who have prejudices across species, are sexist, and just are bad people. Villains are villains. These characters can believe they are good/are doing the right thing, and may try to justify their actions, but they are villains. This is not a greenlight for players to do or say these things. This is not a campaign for evil PCs. The server is open, I will often be around for cooldown talks immediately after sessions, but if emotions are high and you would like to continue playing in the world, but need to take a step back before talking, feel free to reach out in between sessions. Your comfortability and safety is my top priority. I do not want to create an environment that turns you off of the game or platform.
