About the adventure

Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 3 (level 3) - Are We the Bad Guys? You look left and right. A crimson mist hangs in the air as heavy drops hit the floor, echoing ghastly in the silence. Through the rising smog, a huffing and puffing breath heralds a looming shadow about to charge. As it fills your vision, the memory of how you got here comes rushing back. Keep's Tavern "Whoa! I swear that pool is getting larger by the day," Bartho, one of the gatekeepers, smiling as he drinks his ale. "Only fools and cowards go after monsters just for the money," Gala, the other gatekeeper, responds. A third voice speaks up. "Well, the pool is up to 400 gold pieces. I am a mother of two, and I understand, kids are expensive these days you know." It is Oleira, the owner of the provisioner shop. As your party winds down after another day of adventuring, Umbrask walks over to the board and writes another 20 GP onto the reward pool. "We lost another crew out there. These new adventurers are just too green. I’m surprised you haven't tried for it yourself yet. I’ve heard these monsters are tough, but I think you can handle it. What do you think?" The Reward: Oggdug the Ogre 420 gp *** Previous Ep2 That Bandit is too Handsome Next Ep4 Finale: The Bells of Chaos How these one-shots work: Tales from the Borderlands is a weekly, episodic adventure set in the Heroes of the Borderlands starter kit module. About me

Hi, my name is Vin. I run both online and offline tables. Locally, I host a one-shot table at a game store for various adventures set in the Forgotten Realms, and more recently Eberron. Online, I host long-term campaigns for friends, coworkers and strangers alike. I am used to creating long narratives with big emotional or storytelling payoff and on the spot improv based on the dice roll. If you want to know more about me! Read further down below. I’ve been running D&D 5e for almost three years, but my first taste of the game was over 20 years ago. One hot summer, I sat with friends in an abandoned swimming pool role-playing heroes and villains without really knowing the rules. It ended with a giant boulder trap wiping us out, and for some reason we never played again. Years later my wife reintroduced me to D&D, and I fell back in love with the imagination and collaboration it sparks. Somewhere along the way I picked up the DM’s chair, and I haven’t looked back. Outside of the game, I’m into horror movies, sci-fi, anime, and fantasy of all kinds. My wife and I are working through Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive, though my all-time favorite series will always be Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time.

Safety

How Vin creates a safe table

I run games with open storytelling, but there are clear boundaries: 1. Lines (these will not appear in the game): - Sexual content, sexual violence, or heavy sexual innuendo - Real-world racism, sexism, misogyny, or anti-LGBTQ+ 2. Veils (may exist, but never in detail): - Torture or extreme violence (cartoonish violence is fine) - Intense gore or body horror 3. Open Door Policy: - Players can step away from the game at any time, for any reason, without explanation. 4. We’ll also use X, N, and O cards so players can check in or stop the action if something feels uncomfortable. You can say it privately in chat, or openly. The goal is to keep the table safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone.
