About the adventure

Your company has come to Waterdeep with a charter, a plan, and one very ambitious goal: breach The Undermountain and bring back everything that isn't nailed down. You're not hired swords looking for work — you're founding members of a treasure hunting outfit, and that means titles, responsibilities, a headquarters to build, and a silent backer who expects returns. The greatest dungeon in the Forgotten Realms has swallowed armies. You're going to treat it like a business opportunity. This campaign runs Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Dungeon of the Mad Mage as a single connected story. The city comes first — you'll need a base of operations, allies in the right places, and enough gold to fund a real expedition before that well opens. Waterdeep is beautiful, dangerous, and full of powerful people who have opinions about what goes on beneath their streets. Navigate it well and you descend with resources, contacts, and leverage. Navigate it badly and The Undermountain will eat you alive. Then the real work begins. Twenty-three levels of megadungeon carved out by a wizard who stopped being sane centuries ago. Rival factions. Impossible traps. Treasure that makes the risk worth it — most of the time. Every session is a deeper dive into the most dangerous real estate on the Sword Coast, and your company's reputation rises or falls on what you bring back up. This is a long-term campaign for players who love dungeon crawling, tactical combat, and building something together at the table. If you want to explore every room, map every corridor, and argue whether the swallow is African or European, this table was made for you.

About me

Well met Adventurers! I am Avner, and I am excited to either introduce you to the world of tabletop role-playing or help you continue on your epic journey! I began DMing 10 years ago when I got tired of waiting for someone to run a D&D game and decided to learn how to run a game myself. I have been immersed in the hobby ever since. I have done my best to soak up any system I can get my hands on and do everything I can to spread the hobby that previously was much harder to get into. I started my dice rolling journey playing the Warhammer Quest and Hero Quest RPGs and now have since come to love the new 5e D&D system, Star Wars RPG, Pathfinder, Genesys, Cypher, World of Darkness and many more. What I find all these games have in common is it allows the players to tell a shared story with highs and lows that create memories that last years. I have also played in many different formats as well from throwing dice around a table or across a camera to using Roll 20, Fantasy Grounds and many more VVT options. I have even done my fair share of teaching people to play via play-by-post format. If there is a way to play I most likely have tried it. My passion for bringing the joy of the hobby to new players is unmatched, and I hope you give me the chance to bring that joy to you.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters in session zero. All characters will be level one and will be created using the point buy method. Pre-gen characters are available upon request.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All players will need a free Discord account and a working mic for audio, a Roll 20 account to access the battle maps and a free D&D Beyond account to connect to the campaign.

What Avner brings to the table

For this adventure, I will be providing the traditional Dragonheist adventure with some minor modifications to tie it into a heavily modified version of the Dungeon of the Mad Mage that was inspired by the old adventure Pyramid of Shadows. The modifications connect the dungeon crawl into seamless narrative. I will be using the assets on Roll20, KenkuFM and will give all players access to my Discord Server and DnD Beyond Campaign. I have years of experience as a Dungeon Master and plenty of experience teaching the system to new players. If you are new to the game or a veteran player, this will be a fun and immersive adventure.

How Avner creates a safe table

We will be using a session zero to cover our group table rules and the lines and veils. The group will have an Open door policy and will be using breaks and the Roll 20 Safety tools package to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all.
