About the adventure

In this "Stone-Punk" setting, your party will be the sole survivors of a nomadic tribe struggling to survive after a cataclysmic catastrophe. Planegea is a prehistoric fantasy campaign setting, where a dungeon means the curse-painted caves of a cannibal clan. Gone are the safe hearths of taverns and libraries, kingdoms and cathedrals. Planegea is a place of utter wildness, where survival is the only law and it must be carved from the world by force of might and magic. Nothing is as you expect in Planegea. Elves are shimmering dream-walkers, dwarves are half stone, humans are beast-tamers, halflings are silent stalkers, gnomes are filthy scavengers, and dragonborn are just a heartbeat away from their draconic ancestors. Planegea rises out of our earliest ancestral memory, a new-born world just barely recognizable, which holds all the adventure we can imagine. Drawn from the traditions of sword & sorcery pulp adventures, infused with the blood-pounding thrills, and caught in the jaws of primordial dreams, Planegea calls to those who've felt the cold wind raise a chill of hunt and hope on their raw skin. It is a realm where the planes of existence have not yet separated, and a great warrior can travel by foot from the Sea of Stars to the infinite, volcanic peaks of Blood Mountain. About me

“Don’t just give them something cool… give them a chance to BE cool.” This is a game about collaborative roleplay where we tell a story together that puts the players' characters in sometimes dangerous situations of great peril in order to shine, rise above them, and become the heroes they were destined to be! A story where characters evolve over time and change and grow from who they once were to the legends of tomorrow. A game where you look back many, many years from now and remember the adventures... Oh, wait. Your games don't feel that way? Yikes... that sucks... You probably need me as a DM then.

Character creation

Creating your character

I'll be working one on one with you in a FREE session zero to help you build a character that will have fun in this campaign setting. We'll be starting you off at 3rd level. There are some setting specific races and subclasses if you're interested in learning about them, otherwise I'm pretty open to any combinations you come up with. If you can find it in normal D&D, you can find it here too, just... a little different. I encourage you to make characters you will have fun playing within the setting. Personally, I create my characters on DnDBeyond and then port them over to Roll20 using a browser extension called Beyond2, but that's just me. You do you. Roll your stats, if you hate them, roll again. If you want to voluntarily nerf your character, fine too. Whatever. Just have fun. That's the important part. Make something you'll like playing.

The current party

The party currently consists of: -Half-Elf Twilight Cleric -Leatherwing (Dino-Person) Wizard

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account as well as a Roll20 account (where the maps are played). I'll be giving out invites to Opus which will play the campaign's music and ambience. You'll also have your own volume control and access to sound effects to use during the game (swords clashing, spells being cast, etc). If you're like me and prefer to use DnDBeyond as your character generator, it might help to add the Beyond20 browser extension to your computer, but it's not necessary. Before the game it's preferable for everyone to do a mic check to make sure everyone can be heard clearly without any interference.

What TheChaosShaman brings to the table

I host our Discord server where our games will take place. This is our main information hub for all the games I host. There you can meet the other players in your game. There are channels set up to talk about your characters, make plans for adventures, scheduling issues, and the like. I also provide music, sound effects and ambience through Opus, which you'll be given access and control of during the game for sound effects, music, and ambience. I use animated battlemaps and custom tokens on Roll20 that I purchase through Patreon artists and other professionals. I really try to offer a lot of immersion, so it's important that the visuals and the audio stand out to make a memorable experience. Homebrew rules

This campaign will be using the rules provided in The Star-Shaman's Song of Planegea, as well as material from Dr. Dhrolin's Dictionary of Dinosaurs. As the setting was written during the reign of the 2014 rules, we'll stick to those for balance's sake. Players are welcomed to suggest house rules and with a vote we can implement them. I follow game rules but lean "rule of cool" if the leash of the rules is holding back our fun. I will also sometimes tinker with classes and characters to make them more aligned with player's concepts (I've made a Dao Warlock's Imp look like an Earth Mephit and traded the stinger with the breath attack for instance).

How TheChaosShaman creates a safe table

At any point before, during or after a game, any player can contact me and request I change the material. We can discuss this in private or as a group.
