About the adventure
Far beyond the mortal world lies a desert that was never meant to exist. A broken rail line cuts across a wasteland of dust and bone. Small frontier towns cling to survival along its path, cut off from one another by miles of unforgiving desert. Rusting steam-powered constructs lie half-buried in the sand, remnants of an age that once promised prosperity. All rail lines lead to a mountain once known as Prosperity. Its gold is gone. Its miners remain. Deep within the abandoned shafts rules a necromancer-tyrant who finally achieved her life’s ambition: absolute control over her own domain. The dead answer her call. The train runs when she wills it. The towns tremble at the sound of her distant whistle. But this kingdom is a prison. She cannot leave. She cannot win. She cannot feel the satisfaction she spent her life chasing. The deeper you travel into this land, the more reality bends toward something darker and more gothic—like a memory rotting at the edges. Something divine shaped this place. Something sacrificed to create it. ------------------------------------------------------------ Tone & Themes Western gothic horror Isolation and decay Greed and ambition Divine mercy twisted into punishment Emotional torment and unfinished love Domain-of-Dread style sandbox This campaign is inspired by Curse of Strahd in structure: a closed domain ruled by a tragic tyrant. Players are free to explore the desert towns, the rail line, forgotten ruins, and the depths of the mountain as they uncover the truth of this broken kingdom. ------------------------------------------------------------ What to Expect A sandbox horror setting with a central villain A recurring, mobile threat (the train) Moral complexity — this tyrant was once human Escalating gothic elements as you approach the mountain A final confrontation that is emotional as much as physical

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! As you can tell by the number of games I have hosted, that I am not new to GMing and in fact have been doing it for 6 years now. Being a GM is an awesome experience where I get to shape a narrative with a group of people in a fun and exciting way. For me personally, creating a welcoming environment for new players and veterans alike, where they start as strangers, and then enjoy each other's company while telling a story together, is unmatched.

Creating your character
Characters should be created on Dndbeyond. I will have content sharing enabled, so you will have lots of options. Use the campaign link and create your character there or join with one you've already made. Characters should be level 5 and built using standard array or point buy for ability scores. HP should use the default setting of "fixed." All official content is ok. This includes UA, CR, and Custom Lineage from TCoE. Unofficial content is ok with DM Approval. Everyone can starts with all normal starting equipment or gold. Plus 1 "gear token." These can be spent in the following ways: 1 gear token - 400gp 1 gear token- uncommon item (magical or nonmagical) or pet/steed within reason Please send a character image to use for your token. Characters level up using the milestone system. Any character that joins the game later will start at whatever level the rest of the party is at. I plan to finalize characters before the start of session 1.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I plan to run this game on Foundry. Players don't need an account. We will be using Discord for voice chat so it is required that players have a mic. If players built a character on D&DBeyond, it is highly recommended that they download the Beyond20 extension. Players do not need prior experience or knowledge of the rules, but it is recommended to have some knowledge and experience. -Build character on D&DBeyond -Install Beyond20 plugin. -Join campaign discord and have working mic
What Franky Von brings to the table
We are playing online, so I will provide digital game components like maps, tokens, etc. If players wish, they can provide an image for me to use for their character portrait and character token. If a player doesn't provide this, I can provide one.

How Franky Von creates a safe table
We will have a session zero that will go over everyone's expectations and desires for the campaign. We'll touch on what to expect as well as things to avoid. If for any reason a player needs to step away or remove themselves, we will be utilizing the safety measures of Open Door and X, N, & O Cards. Open Door is simply to empower the player to step away and rejoin (or leave if necessary) whenever they need to for any reason, no questions asked. X, N, & O Cards function as an indicators to me (the GM) when subject matter arises which causes discomfort to the point it disrupts your experience, you can utilized X, N, & O in the following ways: X: Place an X in the chat to let me know you are uncomfortable with the current content, often resulting in a change, rewind, or skip of the aforementioned content. N: Placing an N in the chat lets me know that you feel the content is heading towards an X card, often resulting in a change or a “fade to back”. O: An O in the chat is a check-in card, where I will stop and check with the entire group to ensure that everyone is comfortable continuing with the content.
