About the adventure

In the fractured region of Morrow’s End, grief hangs heavier than the morning fog. War-scarred settlements cling to failing alliances, river towns whisper of drownings that feel less like accidents, and sorrow seems to linger long after the dead are buried. As unrest spreads and dark forces stir beneath the surface, the Order of the Silver Lanterns quietly recruits those willing to step into the shadow; investigators, hunters, scholars, and survivors who understand that monsters are often born from something far more human. You begin as newly recruited agents of the Lanterns, tasked with tracking curses, unraveling occult mysteries, and eliminating threats others refuse to face. But behind the haunted widows, hollow-eyed mourners, and strange rituals at the water’s edge lies a deeper truth: a presence known only in whispers as the Veiled Mother, a grief-born entity who feeds on sorrow and leaves devastation in her wake. Some call her a healer. Others call her salvation. The Lanterns fear she is something far worse. This campaign blends dark investigation, tactical monster hunting, morally grey choices, and character-driven storytelling. Expect dangerous dungeons, evolving political tension, occult mystery, and a world that reacts to your decisions. In Morrow’s End, grief is not just an emotion, it is a force. And if left unchecked, it may rise to something divine.

About me

What’s up everyone! My name is Nick and I’m a long time player and have been DMing for about 3 years. I currently am running 4 campaigns, all of which are very different. I started playing in a friend’s garage during 2E with physical books and just having a great time. Since then my experience has grown along with the game! I’m currently a big fan of 5.5 and the things it’s added to modern DnD experience. Let’s run some games, kill some monsters and make some legendary stories we can laugh and joke about for years to come.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will begin at Level 3 and be created using D&D Beyond for ease of access and shared reference. There are no class or race restrictions. You are free to bring the concept you’re most excited about, whether that’s a hardened monster slayer, an occult scholar, a silver-tongued ex-noble, or something more unconventional. Homebrew content is welcome and encouraged, but must be submitted for review and approval to ensure balance and spotlight equity within the party. Powerful or highly optimized builds are absolutely allowed. My role as DM is to challenge your strengths while ensuring every character has moments to shine. All characters should have a reason to accept recruitment into the Order of the Silver Lanterns, whether driven by duty, desperation, curiosity, guilt, ambition, or personal loss. Morrow’s End is a land shaped by grief and instability, and your character should have a personal stake in confronting the darkness spreading through the region.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need both a DND Beyond account and a Discord account. That’s it that’s all.

What Nick May brings to the table

In my games, players can expect a dark, immersive, and character-driven experience built on strong narrative cohesion and tactical depth. I run intense, strategic combat encounters where enemy behavior, terrain, and evolving mechanics matter but I also make sure every character has opportunities to feel powerful and essential. I primarily follow Rules as Written to maintain fairness and consistency, though if something isn’t directly covered we’ll resolve it with a ruling and dice roll to set a clear precedent moving forward. I embrace creativity and Rule of Cool moments when they enhance the story without overshadowing others. I use tonal shifts and distinct character voices to differentiate NPCs, incorporate ambient atmosphere when appropriate, and weave each character’s backstory meaningfully into the campaign. You can expect professionalism, preparation, emotional weight, and a world that reacts to your decisions.

Homebrew rules

These are optional and will change with each group but generally I like a critical fail table, a random encounter system and I prefer no disengaging opportunity attacks but again that will be discussed in session 0 and will go by majority rules.

Safety

How Nick May creates a safe table

We will use a Green, Yellow and Red light system. Green for perfectly fine, Yellow for uncomfortable moments where we will fade to black or skip ahead and Red where we will address the themes or content and where to not take it in the future. We will discuss what is absolutely not allowed in session 0 so everyone has a clear understanding of expectations and other players lines on content.
