About the adventure

You were not drawn into the mists. You were born within them The village of Barovia isn’t a legend whispered in taverns or a distant nightmare told to frighten children; It is your home. a land of gray skies, shuttered windows, and very few means of escaping one’s despair. You’ve lived your entire life under the shadow of the spires of Castle Ravenloft; knowing the count watches, knowing the wolves listen, and knowing hope is a hopeless thing to possess. For years, Burgomaster Kolyan Indirovich stood as a quiet sentinal against despair. His courage didn’t free the valley, but it did hold the darkness at bay long enough for people to cling to the very basic sentiments of life. Now, he is dead. His funeral marks more than the passing of a leader. It marks a breaking point. Terror has ruled Barovia for generations — fear of the night, fear of the devil, fear of punishment. But fear doesn’t last forever. Eventually, it ferments into anger. To grief. To the desperate need to act, no matter the cost. You knew Kolyan. You walked the same streets, heard the same howls, buried the same friends. Whether by loyalty, guilt, love, or fury, his death binds you together. And for the first time in living memory, villagers begin to ask a forbidden question: Does the Devil bleed? You will travel the valley as its people — knowing its customs, its superstitions, and its lies. You will unearth truths older than Strahd’s rule, awaken forgotten powers, and gather allies who have waited lifetimes for someone to stand. This isn’t a tale of heroes arriving to save the land. This is the land rising to save itself. Your resistance will be quiet at first — whispers in cellars, coded messages, hidden sanctuaries — until the day comes when whispers must become defiance. And when that day arrives, you will face a choice every Barovian has feared to make: Live forever in terror, or risk everything you have proving the devil is not a god. —————————————————— This is THE Definitive Ravenloft adventure for those who are familiar with the setting. This adventure will run parallel to a “Curse of Strahd” game, with deviations to highlight the lore only hinted at— or left out entirely— of the 2016 adventure. This adventure may be for you if you: • are an advanced D&D player • have played Ravenloft adventures or have DMed them prior • love good roleplay and high stakes tactical combat • ready to dive head first into a /good/ story. We’ll start at third level, skipping any introductory one-shots. We will utilize 2024 rules and expanded content with homebrew character options to include: Souls & Shells Dusk Elves Barovian Natives Dhampirs, Reborns, Hexbloods Forest Folk This will be a very intentional playthrough for Ravenloft biggest fans!

About me

Hey. I’m Joseph-- a professional Dungeon Master and the author of several bestselling adventure modules on the Dungeon Masters Guild. I bring years of experience and contributions to the game—both as a storyteller and as a guide—crafting adventures that are immersive, emotionally resonant, and deeply respectful of the players who walk through them. My specialty lies in the Ravenloft Campaign Setting, particularly Curse of Strahd. I’ve spent years researching and expanding Barovia’s lore, and have developed a rich, compelling version of the campaign that honors the original module while introducing impactful twists, expanded character arcs, and unforgettable moments. Whether you’re a first-time adventurer or returning to the Mists for another round, you’ll find something new to love. But I’m more than just a DM—I’m a worldbuilder, teacher, and director. I believe that every table should feel safe and inspiring. I strive to create a space where players feel seen and heard, where creativity thrives, and where every session feels like a story worth remembering. When you sit down at my table, you can expect professionalism, structure, flexibility, and above all: care. You’ll feel welcome, supported, and excited to explore the world we've built together. Most importantly, you'll feel confident you can simply just enjoy the game you're paying for. Looking forward to telling great stories with you. Take care, friends. ❤️
