About the adventure

Crown of Ashes is a dark fantasy campaign set in the smoldering aftermath of a fallen empire. Once-golden cities lie in ruin, their streets filled with the hungry and the haunted. The gods are silent, their temples blackened, and the noble houses turn on one another for scraps of power. Amid the ashes rise those who refuse to fade — exiled knights, fallen priests, cursed sorcerers, and desperate survivors who seek the legendary Crown of Ashes, said to grant dominion over what remains of the world. Yet the Crown’s power is born of ruin, and every soul who seeks it risks becoming part of the desolation it commands. In Crown of Ashes, players navigate a brutal world where hope and corruption are inseparable. Politics, faith, and magic intertwine in a tapestry of betrayal and redemption as the party journeys across cursed battlefields, shattered fortresses, and haunted wastelands. Choices matter deeply — every alliance may save or damn the world anew. At its heart, this is a story of reclamation and cost: will your heroes rebuild a kingdom worth saving, or forge an empire of cinders from the bones of the old?

About me

Love TTRPGs, exploring new worlds, watching adventures unfold telling or telling stories? Me too! I've been a Game Master for over 20 years with countless adventures and campaigns under my belt. My current favorite game is Fabula Ultima, though I have a fascination with Monster of the Week. I have run campaigns in Dungeons and Dragons, Monster of the Week, Blades in the Dark, Star Wars, Shadowrun and many more. I love to mix fantasy, science fiction, horror and mystery into my games but the most important part thing to know is that having fun making character stories are most important aspect of gaming for me.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made during session 0. All books are available on discord in PDFs.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use discord for voice chat and once you join the game you will be invited to my discord server. We will make characters during session 0 and we will use owlbear rodeo as our VTT. All you need to start is a mic, discord, and a good attitude.

What Nick - Dork Fortress brings to the table

I have all the books in PDFs shared on discord. I have maps that will be shared over discord and owlbear rodeo. If you would like a custom character token please have a picture ready ahead of time. I do character voices but warn everyone that I am no Matt Mercer and I do use ambient background music.

Homebrew rules

I haven't found any that I use but I'm open to trying them. I also do not mind re-flavoring things to fit character concepts.

How Nick - Dork Fortress creates a safe table

This game is designed to be an enjoyable experience and it will not sacrifice one players experience for the good of the story. There are lines that will not be crossed. No sexism, slurs racial or otherwise, and the only hate that will be allowed is for the monsters and enemies you face.
