About the adventure
You'd think that dying would be easy, that the release of the mortal coil would come with the relief of worries, stress, duty, responsibility. You'd be wrong. You may have died, but even the afterlife has its problems. Druskenvald is such a place and has need for heroes! The Crooked Moon is a folk horror adventure, from the incredible minds at Legends of Avantris, that takes place in a realm beyond that of the living. Filled with scares, social intrigue, and the machinations of the gods, you are the adventurers who find yourselves caught in the middle of it all, whether you like it or not. This will be a fair mixture of combat and social roleplaying. Get to know the people who live in Wickermoor Hollow, a valley region in the realm of Druskenvald. Fight off horrifying monsters that go bump in the night. Consider your choices carefully, as the slightest interaction may change everything you know to be true about the world. With the setting of Druskenvald come plenty of new character options to choose from: - 13 new playable species - 15 new subclasses - 40 new spells - Curses, Otherworldly contracts, and Mysterious artifacts - New monsters and familiars - Post campaign content up to level 20 This game is welcoming to all experience types in D&D, "never have played" to "decades long veterans", and we will be using the 2024 rules! Dungeons & Dragons is a game of collaborative storytelling, so I always aim to create as inclusive of an environment as possible so long as everyone treats one another with kindness, respect, and patience. To be clear, there is no place at my table for bigotry or hate. Tolerant spaces cannot coexist with intolerant people. We will start with a free session zero to get everyone's characters created and familiar with the group, discuss safety tools, and what you're hoping to get out of this story. With all that out of the way, hop onboard the spectral train that just appeared at your doorstep, and let's have some fun!

About me
Hello! I'm Brent, I'm located in the Pacific NW United States, and I would be honored to be your new GM. I've been playing TTRPGs for 10 years now (mainly D&D) and GMing for a few years. I've ran Dungeons and Dragons 5e, The One Ring 2e, the Alien RPG 1e, Monster of the Week, Mork Borg, Blood on the Lens, and most recently Dragonbane. In the future I'd love to run Coriolis, Root, and Symbaroum/Ruins of Symbaroum. I'm also open to any other kinds of TTRPGs! LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC friendly. I've only got two rules: be kind, and have fun!

Creating your character
Session 0 will include character creation and will be free! The adventure is set for level 1-13. Characters will start at level 1 and will level up as they reach certain milestones.
Looking to start March 18th with session zero!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A mic will be necessary, but camera's are fully optional! All you will need is a discord account and good internet access! Desktop computers are preferred, but tablets will also work!
What Brent W brings to the table
I'll be trying to make this as immersive as possible! - Maps - Tokens - Ambient Music - Accents/voices - Implementing backstories and character plots I tend to stick as close to the rules as I can, but my primary concern is having a good time. If any of the rules are getting in the way of that, we will discuss together in the moment how to make the rules work better for us.
Homebrew rules
In order to enhance the horror aspect of the game, species with Darkvision will find it has been suppressed. Enough that they can see a small area around themselves, but beyond that they will need material or magical means of lighting the way. Additionally, I don't allow the spell "silvery barbs" at my tables. In my experience, it tends to undercut a lot of tension and high stakes when there's always an option to (most likely) negate a critical hit by an enemy.

How Brent W creates a safe table
Session 0 - The first session will cover character creation and general housekeeping things before beginning the campaign! Luxton Technique - Session 0 will include a brief discussion of triggers and topic/subject matter that are off limits. This is a time for players to bring up any content that they'd like to avoid, no questions asked. If there's a potential trigger that might be too prevalent within the story, this will be the time to discuss! X - I like to handle X cards two different ways; digital and physical. Players are welcome to choose between the two whichever works best for them. Have a note card or piece of paper with an X drawn on it, then whenever you need, just hold that up to your camera. Alternatively, I like to keep an eye on the chat so if a physical card isn't your thing, or you prefer to stay off camera, just type "X" into the chat, and we can pause gameplay to work through the situation. Open Door and Breaks - At any point during the game, please feel free to momentarily step away from the game to de-stress, grab a drink/snack, use the restroom, or just stretch! On that same note, if something has come up in the game that might not be X worthy, but still feels like it warrants discussion, we can pause gameplay at any point to talk. Debriefing and Stars And Wishes - At the end of each session I like to hold a few minutes to discuss what went well and what could be better! Stars and Wishes are great for this, and debriefing fills in the gaps that Stars and Wishes might not cover. If you'd like, I can also create an anonymous survey to fill out to leave feedback about sessions going forward! The game is only good if we are ALL having fun, so if even one person feels like they want to talk about something, let's take care of it as soon as possible.
