About the adventure

🏴‍☠️ 3 Campaigns in 1 Saga 🏴‍☠️ This is the penultimate Faerun campaign that I've spent the last month spending several hours preparing for each day. Through combining three campaigns (CftD, STK, & ToA), I've been able to make a swashbuckling open world that puts Ghosts of Saltmarsh to shame. If you're interested in a long term campaign where your decisions have a major impact, this is it. 🏴‍☠️ Story Details 🏴‍☠️ The Sea of Swords has always been dangerous—but something ancient stirs beneath its waves. Ships vanish without sound. Storms gather where skies were once clear. Coastal cities whisper of leviathans in the deep and crowned giants marching along shattered cliffs. Far to the south, something dark stirs that threatens all. You'll be joining a crew on a simple mission that will send you into a maelstrom of Sword Coast politics. You will have the chance to become heroes, villains, or something even beyond... 🏴‍☠️ Full Immersion Battlemaps 🏴‍☠️ Every single location in all of the Sword Coast, has a battlemap for it. How I enjoy ensuring my players are immersed, is having a scene they can visually see. One where they can actively move tokens around without having to describe. Where just because a tavern or theatre has a battlemap for it, doesn't mean its inherently going to become a bloodbath. 🏴‍☠️ Sail the Sandbox 🏴‍☠️ Command a vessel. Chart unclaimed waters. Parley with giants, plunder cursed wrecks, explore jungle tombs, or descend into abyssal trenches. This campaign has several massive cities with hundreds of NPCs all across the Sword Coast and beyond it. You can go legitimately anywhere and have it prepared for you with quests abound. While the start of the campaign has a general first adventure of sorts, there are no rails that can steer the ship you'll have. 🏴‍☠️ AI Art 🏴‍☠️ I know some would find some comedy of this section flanked with pirate flags. Overall, I can tell you my stance on it is simple, if something improves the game and player experience, I approve of it. Like all tools, AI can be used poorly, respectfully I believe that my handling of it improves the game that I host. Many of the arts for NPCs are based off sketches I do. There is no slop. Whatsoever. Only the highest quality results that stay consistent in the style are admitted into the game world. 🏴‍☠️ Misc Info 🏴‍☠️ - This campaign is inspired by Divinity Original Sin 2, a game that introduced me to the idea that gathering friends and going on an adventure was truly possible. - There are over 500 battlemaps for all of the locations that you can explore. - The year is near the end of 1492 DR known as "The Year of Three Ships Sailing" rather ironic name is it not? - The events of Waterdeep: Dragonheist have canonically occurred with public knowledge surrounding the events rather unknown. Yet, the Xanathar Thieves Guild is known to have full control of the underground illicit operations of the City of Splendors.

Creating your character

📘 2024 Ruleset We’ll be using the updated 2024 D&D rules for a fresh and balanced experience. If a subclass, spell, or race doesn’t have a 2024 version yet, feel free to use the 2014 one instead. 🎲 Stat Generation You’ll roll two stat arrays using the !randchar command twice on our Discord server, you can reroll arrays of 70 or lower. If luck isn’t on your side, 31 Point Buy is available as a safety net.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will be required to have microphones, Roll20 accounts, and Discord to participate. Discord can be downloaded for a smoother experience compared to the browser version. Character concepts are great for preparation. We'll work together to get the details translated into a D&D character prior to session. Here is the invite link, if it doesn't work just message me on this site and I'll get you in. Discord: https://discord.gg/BVM4BvfnNY

What DM McLoyf brings to the table

What You Can Expect 🎲 Full access to every official D&D 5E book 🎨 Custom character and NPC art to bring the story to life 🎵 Hand-curated music to set the mood and elevate every scene 🗺️ High-quality battlemaps for immersive exploration and combat My GM Style I run a fair, immersive game where rules matter—but the story always comes first. Expect a rules-as-written foundation with flexibility for cinematic moments and creative problem-solving. Combat is fast-paced, strategic, and meaningful—your choices matter, and your spotlight time is respected. Whether you're a veteran player or brand new to the game, I’m here to guide, entertain, and collaborate with you every step of the way.

Homebrew rules

🗡️ Heroic Death 🗡️ Death isn't the end—at least not right away. When a character is about to die, they’re granted a selection of final choices to choose from, offering a heroic sendoff or dramatic twist that honors their journey. 🎵 Bard Buffs 🎵 Bards get a little extra love: they retain Song of Rest from 2014.

Safety

How DM McLoyf creates a safe table

🫱 Post-Session Check-Ins 🫱 After each session, I’ll check in—especially after major moments or emotional beats. It’s a simple way to stay connected and make sure everyone feels heard, supported, and excited for what’s next. ⏸️ Breaks & Refunds ⏸️ Sessions include short 5–10 minute breaks in the middle. If something unexpected forces a major delay or cancellation on my part (say, spontaneous food poisoning), I’ll issue a refund. Your time and experience matter.
