About the adventure
Brave the unforgiving jungles of Chult, where ancient ruins sink into the earth, dinosaurs roam the wilds, and death itself has begun to break down. A terrible curse spreads across the realm and only bold adventurers brave enough to face the unknown can uncover its source and put an end to it. Social Roleplay: ★★★★☆ Combat: ★★★☆☆ Puzzles: ★★★★☆ Tomb of Annihilation: Definitive Edition is a narrative focused remaster of the 5th edition adventure. This version strengthens character motivation, gives NPCs depth and purpose, and makes your character part of the story. Plot holes are repaired, stories are expanded, and your decisions meaningfully shape how the adventure unfolds. This Definitive Edition turns the module into a cinematic experience for your character, while not extending the overall campaign length by an excessive amount. Expect a roleplay heavy campaign balanced with dangerous exploration and fast paced combat. Survival isn't taken for granted. Choices have consequences. This campaign is a complete story driven by the characters at the table, not just the stat blocks in the module. We'll be using Foundry VTT with the official WotC module as a base (no purchase necessary!). We'll use Discord for voice and optional video chat.

Creating your character
Play something that you're excited to save the world with! You don't need to know anything about the setting (or even D&D for that matter) to create a memorable character. Your characters can start anywhere in the forgotten realms, and we'll work together to ensure you have a reason to join together to explore the jungle. Feel free to come up with a background on your own, or get in touch to discuss how you want your character to fit into the story. Although this module is tough, don't feel that you need to min/max or optimize your character. The standard module goes to about level 10, but this Director's Cut goes to around level 14. Due to the fact that this is a long term campaign, characters can't be evil or chaotic neutral. We'll be using standard level 1 character 5e 2024 core rules. Most options from other 2014 books such as Tasha's and Xanathar's may be permitted, so please reach out if you are considering anything from those expanded rules. Abilities will be standard array or point buy. I have all of the necessary books on D&D Beyond and I'll share those resources to everyone that joins so you can look through all of your character's options.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We'll use Discord for chat, so you'll need to make a free account on there if you don't have one. I host foundry locally so you don't need any account or software to join as it's all web based.
What GM Ant brings to the table
I've been running games online with Foundry VTT for many years, and have lots of quality of life mods to make the experience as smooth and fun as possible. I play largely Rules-as-written, but try to make those rules as invisible as possible to players so you only focus on what you want your character to do, not how the rules say they do it.
Homebrew rules
Ubtao, patron deity of Chult, gets offended when inhabitants don't partake of the bounty he offers. Due to this, certain spells that provide food or water are rendered mostly ineffective in the Jungle. Goodberry, for example, still has its healing property but does not provide nourishment. To compensate, all full casters will receive an extra 1st level spell slot that must be used for a utility spell (non-damaging or controlling). Aside from that, the only other 'house rules' are limitations on any combos or exploits such as suggestion forcing NPCs to auto fail saving throws which seem out of line with similar level abilities. If you think it may be broken or an exploit, talk with me prior to the game and we can work things out.
