About the adventure

The first thing we do in Kismet is determined by what kind of game we’ll be playing. Everything else about the game depends on this step, so take your time. Start with big and narrow it down. I recommend starting with genre, then focusing in. Maybe you want to play sci-fi, like space wizards, fighter pilots, or a crew of rocket scientists? Or maybe you’d like to play an economic game, buying low and selling high? Or stick with the classic fantasy setting, knights and sorcerers fighting monsters. Practically any kind of story can be told with this rules-light system, so we'll talk it over in Session Zero until we’ve got an idea how to run the game you want to play. It will be important to figure out the basic mechanics of whatever we land on. Say you’re playing wizards: how does magic work? Wand slinging, an innate sense of magic, or deep study of ancient tomes? Or maybe you’re playing a cadre of mech warriors: does the pilot play a role or do you just need the mech? What kind of weapons will the mechs use? The more questions you ask during setup, the easier it will be to determine how the game will be played.

About me

My name is Tommy and I love introducing players to new games and helping players feel more confident in their roleplaying! I cut my teeth on 3.5e in 2007, moved to Pathfinder 1e, then headed over to 5e before expanding my gaming consciousness to include Draw Steel, Traveller, Fate, and my own, homebrewed, rules super-light game, Kismet.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation takes place in Session Zero, but this is a rules super-light system, so character creation takes a couple of minutes. You'll have at least three properties (ex: physical, mental, social) that will have a die assigned to it (starting at a d6). Then, you can bump one property die up a level at the cost of bumping another die down a level (ex: physical goes to a d8 and mental goes to a d4, you himbo).

What Sage Tommy brings to the table

I will provide the rules (of course) and the seedbed from which the garden of this game will grow. We'll all work together to plant and water our game garden, but I'll take on the heavy lifting.

Homebrew rules

This whole game is homebrewed! We make the rules as we go!

Safety

How Sage Tommy creates a safe table

Ground rules will be established at Session Zero (lines and veils), but some standard rules at all my tables include: no bigotry will be tolerated (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia); sexual assault will not be allowed in any form (not even the bad guys in my campaigns will stoop that low); child endangerment is a big veil.
