About the adventure
Held in underground fighting pits for what feels like an eternity, our heroes find themselves finally one battle away from earing their freedom. All that stands in their way is the mysterious champion of this underground arena, said to have held and defended his title for longer than anyone can remember. It will take our heroes everything they have to emerge victorious, but freedom and fortune await them should they succeed. The Pits is a homebrewed arena combat one-shot meant to introduce newer players to some of the mechanics they might not encounter in a typical learn-to-play session. In addition to learning the basics of gameplay, players will encounter things such as legendary actions and resistances, and have the chance to play as high level characters. We'll be using Discord for voice and D&D Beyond for most everything else.

About me
I'm a veteran GM with roughly 13 years of experience, and there's nothing I love more than creating a world for people to play in and explore. Although I've been dreaming up worlds and telling stories my whole life, my first proper TTRPG experience was in high school when I stumbled my way into becoming the head of my school's gaming club on the back of a janky system I designed myself based on The Strain Trilogy. It was a beautiful trainwreck that descended into chaos in the best way possible, but we all had a great time with it and I've been hooked ever since. I've learned a lot since those days, and my love of worldbuilding and storytelling has only continued to grow. Most of my experience is with D&D 3.5 and 5e, but I'll pretty much never turn down the chance to try a new system, either. Ultimately I'm mostly just a giant nerd who never outgrew wanting to play make believe all day.

What Alex Kennedy brings to the table
More than anything else, what I bring to the table is positive energy, passion for the game, and a promise that I'll do everything in my power to make sure everyone has a good time. Typically I follow the Rule of Cool and am willing to bend the rules to make something interesting happen, though for teaching purposes I will at least make it clear which rules I'm bending.

How Alex Kennedy creates a safe table
At the top of the session players will have an opportunity to bring up any kind of content they aren't comfortable with. Additionally, we'll be using a digital X card system. If at any time a scene moves into territory that you are uncomfortable with, type X in chat or send me a DM and I will pivot accordingly.
