About the adventure

D8 Night is a romantic duet adventure designed for one player and one DM, reimagined here as an intimate play-by-post experience. Anteros, the god of requited love, has trapped you within the village of Sylvanlin—and escape will only come if you can prove the sincerity of your heart. Anteros may appear as male or female, depending entirely on player preference. Their presence is playful, testing, and deeply tied to themes of love, trust, and intention rather than punishment or cruelty. To break the curse, you’ll gather enchanted ingredients, face light dangers, and prepare a perfect romantic dinner—one that reflects not just skill, but genuine feeling. Your choices shape the tone of the story, whether it leans sweet, whimsical, heartfelt, or quietly emotional. Romance is central to the premise, but the depth, pacing, and boundaries of that romance are always player-led. This one-shot is ideal for players seeking a short, cozy, story-forward duet, whether as a date-night experience, a standalone narrative, or a soft introduction to D&D in a low-pressure format.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be completed before the adventure begins, so we can jump straight into the story. Players are welcome to arrive with a character concept in mind, or we can build one together if you prefer. Starting Level: Level 3 Ruleset: D&D 5e (2014 or 2024 rules supported) Stats: Standard Array or Point Buy Hit Points: Max HP at each level Sources: Any content published on D&D Beyond is allowed Homebrew: Allowed with DM approval I will provide a D&D Beyond campaign link with access to the sources needed for character creation. Characters will be created using that link and shared via Discord. Because this is a duet one-shot, characters should be built with roleplay, personality, and narrative choices in mind. The adventure is designed to spotlight your character and the decisions they make throughout the story.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Once you join the game, you’ll receive an invite to the Discord server, which is where all play-by-post roleplay, communication, and dice rolls will take place. I’ll also provide a D&D Beyond campaign link so you can create your character using the available sources. No additional programs or prior play-by-post experience are required. Once you’re in Discord and your character is ready, we’ll jump straight into the story.

What Skyybunny brings to the table

This duet one-shot is highly roleplay-focused, with an emphasis on character interaction, emotional choices, and storytelling rather than tactical combat. Any combat that does occur is light and narrative-driven, designed to support the story rather than dominate it. As this is a play-by-post game, you can expect 1–2 in-character responses per day from me to keep the story moving at a comfortable, consistent pace. I write with distinct NPC voices and vivid scene descriptions to help bring the world and its characters to life. I embrace a Rule of Cool–friendly GM style and love rewarding creative solutions and heartfelt moments. I’ll also provide a curated music playlist you can listen to while reading or writing, tailored to the tone of the adventure. The goal is a warm, immersive experience that feels personal, collaborative, and memorable.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew Rules: These homebrew rules apply to all of my campaigns and are designed to keep the game cinematic, tense, and fun without bogging things down. Potions: -Drinking a potion yourself is a bonus action -Feeding a potion to someone else is a full action -If you take a full action to drink a potion, you regain maximum healing Critical Hits: -On a critical hit, damage is maximum dice + rolled dice -Crits are meant to feel impactful and dangerous—on both sides Death Saves: -Death saving throws are rolled privately between the player and the DM -This keeps tension high and prevents accidental metagaming The One-Time Level-Up: -Each player gets one (SINGLE. UNO. ONE.) level-up they can apply at any time, for any reason -You choose when to use it -Once it’s used, it’s gone forever -Use it wisely Inspiration: -Whoever can give a recap of the previous session earns Inspiration -This can rotate—no pressure if you’re not the recap person! Initiative Twist: -Rolling a natural 20 on initiative lets you choose turn order positioning for yourself among the party Carry Weight: -I don’t track carry weight unless things get silly -Be reasonable (no, you cannot fit four swords in your pocket) Spell Components & Ammunition: -I don’t track spell components or ammunition (unless it is a specific type) Desperate Casting: -You may cast a spell using a spell slot you have access to but have already expended -Doing so deals 1d12 necrotic damage per spell level (this damage cannot be reduced) -You also gain levels of exhaustion equal to the spell’s level, up to 6th-level spells -This is dangerous, dramatic, and very much a last resort

Safety

How Skyybunny creates a safe table

Player safety is a top priority, and we’ll establish clear boundaries before the game begins. Player comfort and safety are a priority at my table. Before each one-shot, players will receive a Lines and Veils document to review and fill out ahead of time. This covers content that is off-limits (Lines), content that may appear in a limited or off-screen way (Veils), and content that is fully acceptable. At the start of the session, we’ll briefly review boundaries and address any questions to ensure everyone is comfortable with the game’s themes. During play, we’ll use both physical and digital safety tools, including X/N/O indicators and an X-card (or equivalent), allowing anyone to pause or redirect content quickly and without explanation. These tools are always respected, no questions asked. After each one-shot, I’ll do a check-in to make sure everyone is feeling okay. If anything intense or difficult comes up during the session, I provide space for aftercare and debriefing.. My goal is to create games that are immersive, engaging, and fun, while also being respectful, inclusive, and safe for everyone at the table.
