About me

I'm John Wick, famous for my work on Legend of the Five Rings, 7th Sea, Cat: A Little Game about Little Heroes, Orkworld, Houses of the Blooded, and a dozen more RPGs. My unorthodox GM techniques and tricks can be found in Play Dirty (volumes 1 and 2).

Character creation

Creating your character

Players create characters during Session Zero. We will choose Clan alliances, NPCs connections, and other world-building details. We will use a Lifepath system to boost character individuality based on the system found in the Mekton RPGs.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Bring a rudimentary understanding of the L5R setting because everything is going to change (including what Clans survived to 1984).

What John Wick brings to the table

I will be using a "L5R 1.5" system that simplifies and streamlines the original game system. The game will focus on young people in ancient Clans (and street samurai!), with a strong emphasis on quick, deadly combat, dangerous romance, and corporate sabotage and intrigue.

Homebrew rules

"L5R 1.5" uses a modified "roll and keep" system. Instead of rolling Trait+Skill, keep Trait, you keep HALF. That means if you roll 7 dice, you keep 4 of them (half, rounded up). Also, combat is DEADLY. Getting hit by a weapon will probably take your character out of the scene, if not kill them directly. We'll also be using a fun Lifepath system for character creation that will tell us about your family, friends, enemies, and lovers.
