About the adventure

Of Blood, Mist, and Memory is a dark fantasy, gothic horror duet play-by-post campaign for one player and one DM, spanning levels 1–10. The story begins in the sunlit seaside city of Linolynn, where a string of child disappearances has unsettled the population. What starts as an investigation quickly unravels into something far older and far more dangerous—vampires, forgotten realms, and a land long swallowed by mist. As the sole protagonist, your character stands at the center of the story. You will follow leads through city streets and ancient catacombs, forge relationships with key NPC allies, and eventually be drawn into Steymhorod—a cursed realm locked in eternal twilight and ruled by powerful vampire lords. The campaign blends mystery, travel, and escalating horror, with choices that shape both the world and who your character becomes. This game is play-by-post, designed for immersive writing, internal monologue, and cinematic scenes without the pressure of live sessions. Pacing is steady and collaborative, with a strong focus on roleplay, atmosphere, and meaningful consequences. You can expect guaranteed 2–3 in-character responses per day from the DM, ensuring consistent momentum and an actively evolving story. Combat is present and important, but always serves the narrative and your character’s personal arc. This campaign is ideal for players who enjoy dark fantasy, gothic horror, vampire lore, and deeply character-driven storytelling. If you love slow-burn narratives, moral ambiguity, and being the emotional core of the world around you, this story was written for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players are welcome to bring a character idea they’re excited about, or we can build one together before the campaign begins. Character creation will be completed ahead of Session One so we can dive straight into the story. Starting Level: Level 1 Ruleset: D&D 5e (2014 or 2024 rules supported) Hit Points: Max HP Stats: Standard Array or Point Buy Sources: Any content published on D&D Beyond is allowed Homebrew: Allowed with DM approval I will provide a D&D Beyond campaign link with access to the sources I have available, making character creation easy and accessible. Characters will be created through that link and shared via Discord. Because this is a duet campaign, your character will be tailored to the story, encounters, and themes of the game. Whether you arrive with a fully formed concept or just a spark of an idea, we’ll shape it into a character that feels grounded in the world and ready to step into the mist.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Once you join the game, you’ll receive an invite to the campaign’s Discord server, which is where all play-by-post roleplay, communication, and dice rolls will happen. I’ll also provide a D&D Beyond campaign link so you can create your character using the available sources. Maps and visual references will be shared as needed, either through Owlbear Rodeo or directly in the Discord server. No additional software or prior play-by-post experience is required. I’m happy to guide you through everything as we go! Once you’re set up, we’ll step into the story together and let the mist roll in.

What Skyybunny brings to the table

This is a high-touch, story-forward play-by-post duet, designed to feel immersive, consistent, and personal. You can expect guaranteed 2–3 posts per day, ensuring steady momentum and an actively unfolding story. I focus on vivid scene-setting, character voices through written dialogue, and cinematic descriptions that bring the world to life at your pace. I’ll provide beautiful, easy-to-read maps shared through Owlbear Rodeo or directly in Discord, along with curated playlists tailored to each chapter of the campaign to help set the mood and atmosphere. Combat is adapted for duet play, meaningful, story-driven, and balanced to spotlight your character rather than overwhelm them. My GM style leans toward Rule of Cool–friendly while still respecting the game's structure. Creative solutions, emotional choices, and character-driven moments are always encouraged. Romance is optional in this solo campaign and will only be explored if it’s something you’re interested in. Above all, my goal is to create a collaborative story where your character matters, your choices carry weight, and the world responds to you.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew Rules: These homebrew rules apply to all of my campaigns and are designed to keep the game cinematic, tense, and fun without bogging things down. Potions: -Drinking a potion yourself is a bonus action -Feeding a potion to someone else is a full action -If you take a full action to drink a potion, you regain maximum healing Critical Hits: -On a critical hit, damage is maximum dice + rolled dice -Crits are meant to feel impactful and dangerous—on both sides Death Saves: -Death saving throws are rolled privately between the player and the DM -This keeps tension high and prevents accidental metagaming The One-Time Level-Up: -Each player gets one (SINGLE. UNO. ONE.) level-up they can apply at any time, for any reason -You choose when to use it -Once it’s used, it’s gone forever -Use it wisely Inspiration: -Whoever can give a recap of the previous session earns Inspiration -This can rotate—no pressure if you’re not the recap person! Initiative Twist: -Rolling a natural 20 on initiative lets you choose turn order positioning for yourself among the party Carry Weight: -I don’t track carry weight unless things get silly -Be reasonable (no, you cannot fit four swords in your pocket) Spell Components & Ammunition: -I don’t track spell components or ammunition (unless it is a specific type) Desperate Casting: -You may cast a spell using a spell slot you have access to but have already expended -Doing so deals 1d12 necrotic damage per spell level (this damage cannot be reduced) -You also gain levels of exhaustion equal to the spell’s level, up to 6th-level spells -This is dangerous, dramatic, and very much a last resort

Safety

How Skyybunny creates a safe table

Your comfort and safety at the table are extremely important to me. I make sure every player knows what they’re agreeing to—and that they always have a way to pause or step back if something isn’t sitting right. Before the campaign begins, I send each player a private consent sheet where you can clearly mark your hard lines, soft limits, and preferences. This information is kept confidential and is used to shape the game so that it stays fun and consensual, not uncomfortable. We also run a Session Zero where we talk through tone, themes, expectations, and boundaries as a group. This is a space to ask questions, flag concerns, and make sure everyone is on the same page before we ever roll dice. During play, we use a simple color system: Yellow means “we’re getting close to a limit—please move away from this topic soon.” Red means “stop immediately—we need to pause and address this now.” No explanations are required in the moment. We’ll shift or stop as needed, and check in afterward. I have an open-door policy. If something comes up during the game, you’re always welcome to reach out to me privately. Aftercare and check-ins are part of how I run games, I want everyone to leave the table feeling safe, respected, and heard.
