About me

Hello and welcome! I am a professional game designer, writer, editor, and consultant. I began professionally in tabletop game design in 2017 as an editor for Carbon 2185 by Dragon Turtle Games. I later worked with Absolute Tabletop on the Dead Man's Guide to Dragongrin, and on several projects at Dead Channel Studios. In 2021 I formed Adventure Slang Productions for the creation of Nuovarden and the Fortunes D4 System. In 2025 Nuovarden was formally published. I am also a podcaster, livestream performer, and English teacher. I began game mastering in 1983 and have professionally GMd both kids and adults since 2016. I can GM D&D 5e, Mork Borg, The Mutant Epoch, Carbon 2185, Call of Cthulhu 7e, Ten Candles, and Nuovarden. I have played many other games and know several systems. Here at StartPlaying, however, I prefer to introduce players to Nuovarden - the earthpunk fantasy option to medieval high fantasy. If you are ready for something a little different, please join me!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters and discuss table expectations and safety tools during the first session. Character creation is simple and fun. We will begin the actual adventure once characters are ready.

The current party

Nuovarden is designed for any type of character combination, and multiclassing (for lack of a better term) is built in. You can customize your character as you level up (evolve), adding power where you want it. We'll run a safe and friendly table steeped in lore and rich in character development and story. Welcome to the fun!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Discord for voice and Owlbear Rodeo or Roll20 for the tabletop. Links will be sent once players register.

What Ty brings to the table

My GM style is immersive. I do voices and accents for NPCs and write flavorful narrative snippets for each scene. My plots are pretty tight and time moves on whether the party takes action or not (so that NPC you met in the last town might be gone by the time you get back, for example). I also like to challenge my players with backstory elements and character growth opportunities. On the other hand I do not expect players to do voices or put on an acting clinic if that isn't your thing. I do welcome your input and ideas, and will work with you to explore the development you see for your character. I want you to have fun and exercise your imagination. I do use battle maps and visuals. Sometimes I have mood music if possible, and props, mostly digital, as well. Anything to make the game exciting. The one thing players need in addition to a Discord account (and Roll20/Owlbear) is a set of d4 dice. I recommend Dice Envy's infinity d4s. These pill-shaped d4s are easier to pick up and a lot of fun to collect. Digital dice are also welcome.

Homebrew rules

Nuovarden is my own design, and it's new, so the rules likely won't be familiar enough for homebrew considerations - but feel free to ask or suggest ideas as you get familiar with it!

Safety

How Ty creates a safe table

I will prepare a lines and veils document that I use for livestreaming, and we will also discuss and employ the red/yellow/green and X card safety tools. More about that during our first session.
