About me
Ayy my name is Steve and I am a GM that has been specializing in Dungeons & Dragons games for newbies since 2014 (The year of its inception!). I worked primarily in healthcare for six years after graduating from university (I studied music and drama (lmao I know)) and I quit my job when I realised I could run D&D full time which is what I am currently doing now! Based in the UK, I started playing myself in 2014 when my GM, and best friend, invited me to play in one of the first modules released for 5e, Lost Mine of Phandelver. Safe to say, I was hooked from the beginning! Our game finished the same year, as Lost Mine is a short book, and I was eager to keep playing but nobody I knew wanted to run a game or knew how - So I borrowed some of my GM's books and got to reading! I quickly jumped into running one of my own games and, safe to say, I have been running games since I began without stopping. I absolutely LOVE tabletop and have delved into some other systems since then, but I have primarily been a one-trick-pony with 5e! My biggest passion is bringing newbies to the table - I fondly remember my first experience and there is something so electric about bringing a completely new experience to someone and watching them begin to "get it" - Not just understanding the game, but beginning to roleplay, talk in-character and really get into it - That is the highest honour, I believe, for any GM and it is what I am most passionate about - A safe, patient and informal approach to tabletop that is catered to the individual's experience. If none of the above convinces you that I am the DM for you, then here is my pitch :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW_p42Je4so ( Here's an actual pitch lmao https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMb6wZ_zhUk )

Creating your character
Character creation will be covered during the session! You will not need any prior knowledge of the game or system coming into the session as it will all be covered during game time!
If you're a complete newbie to tabletop or have no idea how to get into D&D, then this game is for you! The content of this 3 hour-ish session includes: - Learn the tech specs and get situated on Discord for voice chat and how to use Roll20 - How to make a character for Dungeons & Dragons 5e 2014 with a fleshed out background and story. - What a typical session looks like in terms of actually playing the game. - A short, hour long encounter at the end to simulate the three pillars that make up the usual experience: Combat, Roleplay and Exploration! By the time we reach the end, you should have a complete idea of how to play online and what a typical online session of D&D looks like! It's advisable, after signing up for the game, to keep an eye out for a message with an invite to join the discord server as that is my primary method of communication! When you join, you will receive a welcome message there and might be asked a few questions about your interest!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
In terms of preparing for the game, I would encourage the following:- - I use an application called "Discord" for voice communication. I would recommend installing it on the device you wish to play on! (There is no requirement for using a webcam in my games, only voice is necessary!). - The game will be hosted on the website: www.Roll20.net - This is where the graphics, music, character sheets and entire game itself will be run! - Owning a copy of the Player's Handbook is advisable but not necessary - I am more than happy to run you through the necessary steps in order to create your character or provide information from the book for you!
What DM Steve (Solaire Of Astora) brings to the table
I will host the game on Roll20 which the players will be able to access at any point outside of game time. This will enable players to level up or review game information for the next session!

How DM Steve (Solaire Of Astora) creates a safe table
My games are catered to all ages. I like to run a Session 0 where I will encourage the players to discuss relevant themes that may be deemed unsuitable for the group's needs e.g. Harsh language, violence and gore, body horror, phobias etc. If these subjects were preferred to be discussed privately, I would instead provide a consent form that would let the player privately submit their preferences on content they would rather not see featured in the game. If that player would rather talk to me directly in private, that would be perfectly fine too. I handle triggers and inappropriate content with confidentiality and respect towards the player's views and beliefs. If, during the game, a player is uncomfortable with the content they are participating in, I encourage that player to let me know in private so that we can stop the session, take a break and discuss the issue privately. How my players feel during my games is my top priority and if one person is not having fun, I will take the steps necessary to ensure they are heard and ensure the subjects they deemed inappropriate are kept strictly off the table. I take a no-tolerance approach to inter-player conflict. Should one or more players become uncomfortable with each other, I would do my best to resolve the conflict privately and in a healthy manner. Communication is vital during times of player conflict and I do my best to promote this in the game and outside too.
