About the adventure

Imagine starting in a classic D&D fantasy world—taverns, dungeons, dragons—when a blazing star tears the sky open and crashes like a fallen god. Inside the wreck, you find dying “sky‑sailors,” strange magic‑tech, and a desperate mission: carry a dangerous relic to a distant, god‑touched gate somewhere among the stars. You don’t need to know anything about Dark Matter to play! Discover the wider universe for the first time, alongside your character. This campaign is an introduction to the Dark Matter setting: a galaxy where spellcasters share bars with blaster‑slingers, starships jump through the magical Void, and ancient space‑stations are built on the bones of colossal void‑beasts. I run games in a collaborative, character‑driven style with a strong focus on story, cinematic moments, and making sure every player gets spotlight time. Rules are by‑the‑book 5e with room for rule‑of‑cool when it makes the scene unforgettable. This game is great for curious players who like exploration, mysteries, and roleplay, and who are excited by the idea of “D&D in space” but don’t want to wade through a ton of new lore before they can have fun. Tone‑wise, expect pulpy adventure with serious stakes: heroism, weird wonders, and humor, all wrapped in a story about what your characters will do when they realize their small world is just one speck in a vast, strange galaxy.

Character creation

Creating your character

We use DNDBeyond or Dicecloud to create characters. We will be using the Discord bot Avrae for rolls, checks, saves, etc. Don't worry if you don't have experience with these things, I am happy to help guide people through. I also have Tupperbox, which players can use if they'd like, though this is not a requirement.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account and either a Dicecloud or DNDBeyond account (all of which are free).

What apheline brings to the table

I run an active D&D PbP server where you can chat with other players. There will be In-Character and Out-of-Character channels as well as channels for maps, resources, party loot, etc. We may also use a virtual tabletop such as QuestLine. You will never have to pay for extras, VTTs, etc at my table.

Homebrew rules

I am happy to work with homebrewed or non-standard D&D materials as long as they aren't game breaking or make the game less fun for others.
