About the adventure

🎪 Find a piece of your childhood lost! 🧚 Explore the realm of Fairytales 🍭Use Diplomacy and Creativity to solve your problems! 🔮Make completely straightforward deals with hags! As a child you lost something at the Witchlight Carnival. You're all grown up when the Witchlight Carnival returns, determined to regain your missing piece. But things aren't quite what they seem and it's not just you who is missing something. Do the owners of the carnival know more than they're saying? Confront the owners and solve the mystery, but be warned the answers may just lead to more questions.... The Feywild is a place of whimsy and wonder, more vibrant and strange than you could ever imagine, and it plays by it's own rules. Find what you've lost! Save those who are trapped! Or lose yourself in this magical and mystical place... This is a roleplay heavy adventure. While it is possible to complete this adventure without combat, the Pacifist Mode is incredibly challenging. But attacking all of the creatures you come across may also end in capture or death. Navigating when to talk and when to fight is part of the joy of this module. This is a great Beginner adventure and I have years of experience teaching over a hundred new players how to play D&D. If you love the idea of playing in an imaginative Fairy Tale world, where words matter as much as swords, you've come to the right place - no matter your experience level! About me

Picture it - 1986. 5 children sit around a table while an adult teaches them to play D&D. One small, blonde girl rolls an oddly shaped die and the number facing up is a 20. The children cheer! That little girl wasn't me, it was my little sister. But even though that moment wasn't about my character it has stuck with me all these years. That is the power of role playing games. I played AD&D 2e until my early 20's when life just got too busy and friends drifted apart. I came back to the hobby like many others, after watching many hours of Actual Plays during the pandemic and deciding I just HAD to play again. Since finding a DM is hard and all those hours of watching others play made me feel like I knew the rules, I felt that the only way I could play again was to be the DM. I scoured the internet for one shots and other DMs to hone my craft with. I discovered Foundry and Adventurer's League and have been learning and growing with every game. I am really happy learning new systems and styles and always grab the opportunity to learn, play in or run new RPGs!

Character creation

Creating your character

This campaign starts as children at level 0, all you'll need to start is: * species * approximate age (younger child or older child) * name Please do not come with a fully built character to session 0. It's good to have several background and class options in mind. However, you are encouraged to choose your background and class based on the actions your child character took in the childhood adventure. We'll build child characters, run through their childhood Carnival adventure, then age up the characters to level 1.

The current party

If we get enough players to start before Feb 28th, all proceeds will go to the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A computer capable of running Foundry VTT through your browser, Chrome Browser works best, but Chromebooks tend to chug https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/ If you haven't used Foundry before check this out before first session https://foundryvtt.com/article/player-orientation/ We will use Discord for voice, a headset is preferable over speakers. A decent microphone It is polite to minimize background noise as much as possible while on mic. If you haven't played D&D 5e before, let me know and I'll send some great beginner tips your way and will teach you the rest as we go.

What Celticdenefew brings to the table

I like to run D&D with a focus on story, I believe the best campaigns are when both players and characters have stakes in the adventure and endeavor to create a story that will be personal to both the player and PC. But that doesn't mean I skimp on the combat. While this adventure can be completed 100% pacifist mode, it is incredibly difficult to do so and will require 100% Player buy-in. Ultimately, D&D is a game of overcoming challenges, and it's my job to challenge you appropriately. If and when combat happens, I prefer when it is fun and engaging for everyone at the table and moves the story forward. Sometimes that will mean a quick tumble with some minions, sometimes that will mean an epic battle on multiple levels of terrain. I love using appropriate art for the Theater of the Mind moments and battlemaps for combat, and support a lot of fantastic artists for both. I often find music distracting, so it sometimes gets missed. When there is music or sound effects, the volume is controllable on the player's side so that you can have as much or as little as you like. I have all of the available WotC sourcebooks on Foundry and many more on D&D Beyond, allowing for a wide availability of character options. I also use different Foundry VTT modules for art, animations and automation to make getting to the role play easier and faster. My tables are always an LGBTQ+ and neuro-divergent safe space. This story in particular is a great Beginner adventure and I have years of teaching over a hundred new players how to play D&D, as well as other game systems.

Homebrew rules

Any player who adds public session notes to the Player Journal will gain DM Boons, a d6 which can be added to any roll. If you use an Action to drink a healing potion, you will gain the max health possible. Feeding a potion to another player still requires a roll. When it makes sense, a player can spend a resource (hit die, spell slot, etc) to perform a finishing move on an enemy, defeating them instantly.

Safety

How Celticdenefew creates a safe table

There will be no Sexual Assault, chattel slavery, IRL Racism, Homophobia or Transphobia in my games. Any slavery will be based on Indentured Servitude, Ancient Roman/Greek and Feudalism. I use an anonymous Safety Tools mod in Foundry which lets folks instigate if they are uncomfortable with a scene or to indicate that they are good and want to continue, as well as other safety tools. There is a 10-15 minute break every session and we discuss Stars & Wishes at the end of each session. I have an Open Door policy (you can step away at any time during the session for any reason, no explanation required) and use a mod in Foundry to indicate when you step away and when you return.
