About the adventure

Fargrim, a dwarven lord -- well, more like a very successful merchant -- is intent on reclaiming the ancient Dwarven stronghold, Thrumheim which fell more than two thousand years ago. The place is vast, once home to thousands of dwarves and divided into multiple districts. Now, it is crawling with goblins, troglodytes, and all manner of other denizens that have crawled their way up from the Underdark. Recovering it is going to be a major effort! While he may not have the support of his clan, he DOES have a lot of coin to throw at the problem and is hiring adventurers like yourself to help him clear the place. Will you answer his call?

About me

I've been running Dungeons and Dragons games as well as other systems for over 35 years now. It's one of my passions, and it is my main creative outlet. It's this or actually try to write a book.😊 If you join one of my games, you can expect to have a customized experience. I've never gotten used to running modules, and I avoid linear, boxed in games -- I want your decisions to shape what shape what comes next. I'm also a big fan of Foundry VTT and have been using it extensively ever since the pandemic. The automation and the ability to use absolutely gorgeous maps is hard to beat. So, that's me as a GM in a nutshell. I look forward to running a game for you!

Character creation

Creating your character

### Character Creation ### Please create your character in D&D Beyond using the following settings: Core Rules and Expanded Rules. (This game will be using the 2024 rules) * Start your character at 3rd level. * Use Point Buy for attributes. * Average Hit Points * You can use material from the 2024 Player's Handbook, 2024 DMG, Forgotten Realms books, Tashas, Xanathars, and Monsters of the Multiverse. ### Starting Equipment ### Instead of using the starting equipment gained by your class and background, you each have 600 gold to buy whatever you want. You may purchase up to 2 common and 1 uncommon magic items, and any number of consumables. Common magic Items cost 100gp + the base item cost if appropriate. (This is for armor, shields and weapons) Uncommon Magic items cost 400gp + the base item cost Consumables, such as healing potions, cost half of that amount. So, a potion of healing is 50gp.

The current party

This is a new campaign, so every role will be open. Premades will be made available, but what fun is that when you can make your own character. :)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

For this game, we will be using Foundry VTT. See the Client Requirements here: https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/ We will also be using Zoom for voice and video, which are both required for this game. You do not need to have a Zoom account, but you will need to have the software installed.

What Robert Howard brings to the table

This game will include a mix of roleplaying and tactical combat. Just how much combat vs. roleplay will depend on the group. I enjoy games with shades of gray, vs monolithic good and evil. So, you should also expect that there may be some difficult moral decisions that your characters might have to make. "Monsters," particularly intelligent humanoids like goblins, orcs, etc, are not universally evil and have their own motivations and desires that can (sometimes) be navigated in ways other than at the tip of a sword.

Homebrew rules

I do like the Baldur's Gate 3 rule of being able to drink a potion as a bonus action, so consider it like having a free potion bandolier for every character :)

Safety

How Robert Howard creates a safe table

Before session zero, you will receive a link to a Google Sheet which has a number of trigger topics that you may want to either be "off camera" or not in the game at all. There are some topics that will come up during the game that are noted in the content warnings for this game and will be highlighted on the sheet. This will also include PvP. Either everyone is okay with it, or it doesn't happen.
