About the adventure

A cold wind stirs within the Frostspire region. Dark cults, monsters and demons make the blistering cold that much more deadly. Then, there's you. Young squires, hoping to one day raise to the position of Knights within the Defender's guild. Guided by the ever watchful Lady Elaria, you'll travel the region taking on tasks set forth by the guild and sometimes, you'll stumble upon adventure! Bundle up and steel yourself as you try to weather... THE GREAT FROST. **************************************************************** This campaign will have you travelling through frozen tundra and icy weather. In between locations, you may wind up battling the elements, beasts or find desperate survivors. Depending on session 0 decisions, the campaign will be 50/50 combat or can tilt one way or the other, depending on group preference.

About me

I am a hardworking perfectionist who spends hours trying to master whatever job I'm working on. I've run games, started building my own game and have spent hundreds of hours watching things like "How to Be a Great GM" and listening the Brenan Lee Mulligan remind me what Gming is all about. When I first started DMing, so many years ago, I was pretty critical of myself. Now? I struggle to recognize that person in the mirror. The confidence, the skill, the knowledge and the creative ways I run my games? It's like I've discovered a completely new person... I run my games like a movie, jumping between scenes and making adjustments on the fly, because my NPC's are alive. They have hopes, fears and dream; just like anyone else. I want you to leave my table after each session thinking, "For a few hours a week. Nothing matters. The chores are on hold, the struggles of my day job can be left at the door and I, WE can be heroes."

Character creation

Creating your character

Session 0 will be scheduled during our very first session of the campaign. Stats will be decided using a point-buy style, or a shared "group" rolled dice style if the group agrees. As for bringing your characters from home, you may bring your OC character concepts, but they will be made WITH me. Starting level will be between 1-5, I'm in preference for 3, since that's when your subclasses come online, but a group of rookies might do better with a lower starting level and a group of veterans might be better off starting higher. I'm flexible. As for specific books, I would prefer to only use the 2024 edition of D&D, but I can work with allowing certain, things from the 2014 edition. The understanding should be that the 2014 books aren't all balanced for the new design. So, I may have some general limitations.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a free account with Quest Portal. Easy, barely an inconvenience. I would recommend a discord account, but if needs be, I will work around this one. It's mostly for a backup and I'm flexible. I will be setting up a personally designed Player Character sheet for use in Quest Portal, as such, I will only be using the 2024 PHB and the 2025 Heroes of Faerun books for players that join last minute. However, for those that join at least a week before, I'll allow you to bring me your desired PC ideas and I will work with you. This option is essentially for players how join early, giving me time to prepare for their arrival.

What Midnight brings to the table

I love doing voices. I enjoy connecting players to NPCs and interacting with PCs as though I am that NPC. When it comes to the environment, I prefer to keep it simple. I'll tell you what "type" of room you're in: an office, a basement, a closet. However, I wouldn't be overly detailed with my descriptions. If there's something you want to use in a room that was likely have; I'll probably let you. If that outcome is in doubt, we'll roll a D100 and anything over 51+ will be in your favor. I prefer cinematics over descriptions and dialogue over cinematics. I want the story to pull you in. I want you to LOVE your favorite NPC's and HATE the most difficult enemy NPCs. I don't mind banter; whether in combat or with your fellow players, but remember to share the spotlight and trust that I will give you yours!

Homebrew rules

I will not adjust the rules too much, but I often follow a speed rule. If I am not sure (or can't remember), I'll either make a one-time solution or give you if choice. As the mob would say; "Rules are like ribs; meant to be broken."

Safety

How Midnight creates a safe table

I will be sending over a link to our player safety document. As for your X (Stop this scene), N (Skip this part) and O's (I'm good to keep going), they will be messaged to me should the need arise. I get it; some of you don't feel you need this safety net...Until you do. If we never use these safety tools, then that's great! Still, I would prefer to have them if I need them, rather than need them and not have them. Even though, we'll be on voice chat, I would prefer you message me. If my story suffers, then I'll take the heat. However, I don't want someone whose struggling with an issue to afterwards be put into another's player's crossfire; even if that player is just making a joke.
