About the adventure

Beneath the quiet coastal town of Otari lies the Abomination Vaults, a sprawling dungeon of ancient magic, lingering spirits, and growing corruption. Using Pathfinder’s Abomination Vaults Adventure Path as its foundation, this campaign expands the scope of the story beyond Otari, introducing darker forces and stranger influences at work behind the scenes. What begins as a local threat soon reveals itself as something far more ominous. Unbeknownst to most, the events surrounding the Vaults have drawn the attention of a powerful entity from another world—a legendary vampire lord whose shadow stretches across realms. As the barriers between worlds begin to thin, subtle changes ripple through the dungeon and the town above it. Familiar horrors take on new meaning, and whispers of an unseen hand guiding events grow harder to ignore. This campaign blends classic dungeon crawling with gothic horror, dark fantasy, and unfolding mystery. Players can expect tense exploration, atmospheric storytelling, tactical combat, and roleplay shaped by difficult choices and unsettling discoveries. While Abomination Vaults provides a strong narrative backbone, player actions will meaningfully influence how the story evolves and what forces ultimately emerge from the darkness. This game is well-suited for players who enjoy immersive worlds, eerie themes, and a balance of roleplay and combat. New Pathfinder players are welcome, and veterans will find plenty of surprises woven into the familiar framework. About me

Well let’s just get right to it. I’m an almost 40 year veteran of countless rpg systems and been a GM for a little over 10 years. I try to be as adaptable as possible in the games I run and try to involve every member in the party as equally as possible while keeping within a specific players comfort level, I’ll adapt the level of role play to how committed and immersive the party wants to be. I’ve been to over 40 countries and really have fun emulating the various accents I’ve encountered in my travels, even giving npc’s their own dedicated facial expressions and hand gestures. I try to run combat in a dynamic and cinematic style, often playing Japanese war drum music in the background to help set the tone.

Preparing for the session

Getting ready to play is quick and simple. Before the game, players should: Have a Discord account Create a free Discord account if you don’t already have one. Join the game’s Discord server You’ll receive an invite link before the session. This is where all communication will happen. Set up audio and video Make sure you have a working microphone and webcam. Test them in Discord ahead of time to avoid technical issues during the game. Use a compatible device and internet connection A computer or laptop is recommended. A stable internet connection is important for voice and video chat. That’s it! No virtual tabletop, extra software, or downloads are required beyond Discord. The goal is to keep everything easy, accessible, and resource-light so players can focus on having fun.

Pathfinder has a resource called Hero Points that are awarded during sessions and can be exchanged for rerolls and other effects. I’ve significantly expanded what they can be used for, and it’s been a very popular change with my groups. Sometimes I'll describe a screen as if the players were watching a movie, describing camera angles and emotions the characters should be feeling based off their playstyle and established personalities.

How David creates a safe table

Player safety and comfort are a priority at my table. I aim to create a welcoming, respectful environment where everyone can engage with the story at their own pace and confidence level. Before play begins, we will have a Session 0 where we discuss the game’s tone, themes, expectations, and boundaries. During this session, I will go over the safety tools we’ll be using, table etiquette, communication preferences, and any content concerns players may have. This is also where we’ll establish Lines and Veils—clear boundaries for content that should not appear (Lines) or should only occur off-screen or fade-to-black (Veils). I will provide a digital Lines and Veils form prior to or during Session 0, and players may update their boundaries at any time. During play, we will use X, N, & O Cards as real-time safety tools. These will be handled digitally (via chat or agreed-upon symbols/emojis), making them easy to use without interrupting the flow of the game. X means stop immediately and move on with no questions asked. N means slow down or soften the content. O means the content is enjoyable and can continue. I also support an Open Door policy: players are always free to step away, take a break, or leave a session for any reason, no explanations required. Regular breaks will be built into sessions, and additional breaks can be requested at any time. After intense or emotionally charged sessions, I offer aftercare and/or debriefing, which may include a short check-in, casual conversation, or time to reflect on how the session felt. Players are never required to share more than they’re comfortable with, but space is always made for support and feedback. My goal is to ensure that everyone feels heard, respected, and safe—so we can focus on telling great stories together.
