About the adventure

Red Hand of Doom is a military sandbox campaign for a party of 3-6 PC's that will begin at 3rd level and end at 17th level or beyond. It centers around a region called the Elsir Vale, where the PC's become aware of an impending invasion by a horde of goblinoids, led by a warlord who is claiming to be a direct scion of the chromatic dragon goddess Tiamat. As the army approaches, the characters will have multiple opportunities to gather allies, save civilians and of course to slow and halt the foes' advance. Once they face off against the warlord himself, they will deal with the powers behind the army, which may include the deity he claims to serve. In addition to the "typical" D&D adventuring experience, this campaign will offer some heavy emphasis on Role-playing in order to gather allies and resources, and then using strategy and tactics to deploy those resources in a creative way. Another element of the campaign is the ticking clock of the army's approach, which will add suspense and tension as well as making the choices the PC's make even more important because time is the most important resource. The party will have an HQ where downtime actions can take place, and I will streamline time costs to make progress in deference to the time crunch of the campaign. There will be time allocated for interactions, personal goals, etc. apart from dealing with the invasion.

About me

Greetings, fellow travelers, my name is Leland and I am a Storyteller and Game Master with experience in TTRPG's, Live Action Role Play and writing. Thanks so much for checking out my profile and considering me to be your GM: whether you are a beginner at sitting down at a TTRPG table, or the most grizzled of veterans pulled in for one more "last job" I look forward to making a memorable experience with you! For me the passion for gaming started back in jr. high, over twenty years ago. I loved how much more immersed and interactive a roleplaying game was compared to the board games and video games I grew up playing. The love for the hobby followed me into university where I created a school sponsored organization celebrating all types of gaming and dedicated to bringing together a community of folks passionate to engage! Since then, I've helped tables as a GM to develop that same community aspect. A place where you don't just show up and leave on time like some 9-5 job, you're here to make memories with some awesome players who love the game as much as you. No matter who you are or what you believe, let's have fun together and see our heroes in exciting action against mighty foes! Can't wait to see you at the table!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters can be developed and finalized during or before Session 0, with the following parameters: -Use the linked DND Beyond Campaign to create your characters, which I will upload into Foundry. -We are using the 2024 ruleset, with backwards compatibility for expanded rules content. All WOTC content is allowed, 3rd party or partnered content must be approved before it can be used. -Abilities set using Point Buy, HP set to Fixed, Leveling set to Milestone. Starting Equipment or average gold buy for gear -Characters will begin at Level 3, expecting to end the campaign at Level 17 During Session 0 we will go over some unique characteristics to your character as well as discussing your goals and backstory. Your character should have goals for the future as well as connections to others, NPC's, your fellow PC's, etc

How Leland Palmer creates a safe table

Prior to session 0 I will forward an RPG consent checklist, which will allow me to curate your experience and avoid sensitive topics. During that session we can discuss specifics further and help to facilitate everyone's enjoyment. The most important tool for safety is communication and I am open before, after and between sessions to address any concerns or opportunities.
