About the adventure
Sablemort Academy of Magic was never meant to exist here. Drifting through the Mists of Ravenloft like a misplaced memory, the Academy stands intact despite the land’s hunger for decay. Its towers glow faintly at night, wards still holding, bells still tolling for classes that should no longer be taught. Students enroll without knowing how they arrived, and few remember ever embarking. At the heart of the academy presides Headmaster Nocturne, an austere figure of impeccable courtesy and absolute authority. Nocturne insists the school’s purpose remains unchanged: to preserve magical knowledge, train promising minds of Ravenloft, and maintain order in an impossible land. Yet he never answers when asked why the academy drifts, or what price was paid to anchor it against Ravenloft’s rot. Deep beneath the stacks dwells the Archivist, an ancient entity bound into the academy’s foundation. It remembers every spell ever taught within the halls—and every student who failed to master them. The Archivist does not judge; it records. Names, secrets, fears, and final thoughts are etched into ledgers that cannot be burned. Whispers claim the Archivist feeds the Umbral Powers not blood, but knowledge, and that forgetting is the only mercy it withholds. To keep the academy functioning, Nocturne has permitted the faculty to enter contracts with infernal scholars: Scribetus, devil of annotations, marginalia, and binding clauses, and Glyphion, master of sigils, wards, and magical enforcement. Their presence is subtle but inescapable—every contract signed in ink that never fades, every protective rune humming with infernal precision. Lessons are safer now. Consequences are not. Students who excel are rewarded with insight. Those who fail are retained. As the characters navigate lectures, shifting hallways, and faculty whose smiles never reach their eyes, they begin to notice discrepancies in the records. Names scratched out. Dormitories that exist in the catalog but not in memory. Lycoris, a librarian who appears translucent and green, shelving books she claims to have written herself—after her death. The Umbral Powers are watching the academy closely. Whether Headmaster Nocturne serves them willingly or merely believes he can outwit them is unclear. What is certain is this: the Archivist is nearing completion of something vast, Scribetus and Glyphion are renegotiating terms, and the next graduating class may decide whether the academy remains a sanctuary… or becomes Ravenloft’s most efficient engine of damnation. Knowledge is power here. And power always demands a price.

Homebrew rules
Scrolls: Using a spell scroll is an Arcana check: use 10 + spell level − your max spell level if it’s on your list, otherwise use 10 + 2×spell level − your caster level. The action required to use a spell scroll is the action required to cast the spell or 1 action, whichever is less. Potions of Healing: • Bonus Action (in combat): Roll the potion’s healing dice. • Action or Out of Combat: Take the potion’s maximum healing value. Cleaving: If a melee attack drops a creature to 0 HP and you dealt excess damage, you may apply the leftover damage to another target in reach that the original attack roll would have hit. Flanking: You gain +2 to melee attack rolls if: • An ally is directly opposite you on the target, or • You have three or more allies adjacent to the same enemy.

How GM AP creates a safe table
Every session can be a session 0. I use a session opener that encourages players to use/update their safety tool preferences on an ongoing basis. Also included is the ability of players to create private and/or public threads where they need only state their safety tool concerns and I will avoid it and do my best to steer the players away from said concern and handle any desired discussion of the topic to the best of my ability and seek feedback from the concerned where and when necessary before doing so.
