About the adventure
**GMed by a member of the writing team for Chaosium's Ennie Award-winning Call of Cthulhu supplement Down Darker Trails.** “If I am mad, it is mercy! May the gods pity the man who in his callousness can remain sane to the hideous end!” ― H.P. Lovecraft, The Temple Playing investigators and humanity's unlikely last defense against ancient evils, you will visit and discover the New England towns and villages that form the backdrop of many of Lovecraft's stories. There you will encounter odd personalities, unsettling situations, and horrors that assault your sensibilities and sanity. You will portray characters battling their own personal demons and summoning the courage to face the maddening truths that most avoid in blissful ignorance. You will uncover plots, research lore to unlock vital information for combatting dark forces, sneak into forbidden locations, steal valuable artifacts, tomes, and clues. The tone of this game will be purist investigation punctuated with moments of pulpy action. You will flee pursuit of cultists, monstrous beings, authorities, and other foes. You will employ your fists, weapons, firearms, explosives and all means necessary to survive and to put down dark forces. !!Beginners are most welcome and enjoy many advantages!! We are looking for enthusiastic role-players to breathe life into complex characters facing unimaginable challenges. Whether you are a Call of Cthulhu veteran or newcomer, all we require is that you are fun, social and excited to sleuth your way around Lovecraftian horror.

About me
My gaming journey started with D&D and TSR games in the early '80s, but I got away from the hobby after high school. After a Stage IV cancer fight 15 years ago, I returned to the RPG hobby with a vengeance. Life is good! I'm a Cambridge-educated American, happy husband, and proud father of an amusing and impressive teenage girl. Outside of gaming, I ran a successful non-profit theater company for 10 years and dabbled in amateur formula racing. What I love most about gaming is getting into a cycle of creative enthusiasm where players and I are feeding each other to create memorable experiences. While I secretly cheer for the players, I make sure to referee objectively so that the team can enjoy the wins it earns. Teaching new players or teaching experienced players new systems is something I've done a lot of since I came back to the hobby. It was easier for me to teach friends how to play games than find gamers. These days Shadowdark, OSR games, and Call of Cthulhu are the games that groove me most. With that said, I love, play, and run A LOT of games. Games have always been more about the people at the table than specific rule sets or mechanics to me. I can have a blast playing Parcheesi with people. Well, that's me. So, you up for it? Want to roll some dice and make some shit up together?

How SpitfireDave creates a safe table
Call of Cthulhu is a horror game where you can expect unsettling content. We will not lean into the historical prejudice, racism, sexism, and homophobia of the times, but we won't completely whitewash it either. These items will not be a central theme in the campaign. When joining the campaign you'l be asked to identify any particular themes/topics that are highly sensitive to make sure we address properly. Other safety tools we'll use are outlined below.
