About the adventure

This game of Daggerheart is an Age of Umbra Framed campaign, taking heavy inspiration from sources like Dark Souls, Bloodborne. The Halcyon Domain now stands wreathed in shadows of The Umbra. Corruption seeps into the denizens of the dark and the land itself. Only the light of Sacred Pyres has allowed the small pockets of civilization to subsist. Those that still live in this shadow-drowned world are known as The Enduring. The Pyres must be tended to, and each settlement cares for them like the blessed lifeline it is. All the same, this realm is doomed, as on day, the fires will die... Secrets of the Old Kingdom may provide some kind of means to stave off the creeping Umbral Corruption. Are you brave enough to delve the halls of Old Halcyon? What secrets might you find? Perhaps salvation comes, not from The Hallows Above, but from The Circles Below...

About me

Hello There! Welcome to my page! I've been DMing for a long time and have specialized in helping new players develop and grow in the hobby of TTRPG's. My preferred system is D&D 5e, but I also have some experience with the Chronicles of Darkness and World of Darkness systems. I've familiarized myself with a multitude of systems over the years so if you want to homebrew mechanics, I have a wealth of knowledge to work with. I have my own homebrew settings that can be played as One-Shot modules, or as full scale campaigns. I house rule specific things within either of my preferred systems to favor the quality of life for my players. I take my time resolving in-game events. The only thing I ask is that I receive the same respect and patience that I will show you as we progress. Roll Initiative, let's get started!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place at Session Zero with characters beginning the game at Level 1. We will conduct Session Zero with the Connecting Questions rules in mind for this system, allowing the party to create relationships between themselves and NPC's, even the world map itself, from the very beginning of the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Necessities are a Discord account, a working microphone, access to a window to view our VTT of choice (Owlbear Rodeo), and a character sheet. I recommend as well a character sheet through Demiplane (especially for beginners) and if possible your own physical dice (Who doesn't love rolling dice???)

What Ben "The GM in the Keep" brings to the table

I will provide a Discord server that is designed to help keep the game organized, access to the character creation materials and reference information. I will also have a Demiplane Group open to facilitate an interactive character sheet, with it's own dice roller.

Homebrew rules

We will be keeping close to the rules as written for Daggerheart, but corner cases exist, so we may refer to a homebrew rule if it would be helpful.

Safety

How Ben "The GM in the Keep" creates a safe table

Session Zero will be used as an opportunity for any and all players to opt out of any content within the game that is objectionable, though I also curate an Open Door Policy. This means that if something comes up later that is disturbing to a player, I highly encourage them to come and inform me. We also make use of an X N O card system to allow for discreet and immediate response should the game turn in an unwelcome direction. I hold the firm belief that we CAN tell stories with heavy, scary, and dark content. We should, however, never be MADE to participate in a story that features such content.
