About the adventure
Hey there, thanks for showing an interest in the game! I'm looking to run a heavily modified version of the Curse of Strahd module for DND 5e. I've made extensive changes to the overall plot, locations, NPCs, and core lore elements such as Strahd's origin story, the nature of the Mists and of The Dark Powers. Another addition is the looming threat of the Blood Moons and their influence on the cursed land, as it compels the dead to rise from their graves and hunt the living. The idea to change these things has been done before and I know many other great DMs have done so to great success! But after running this module as a DM once before, I am confident that many of the changes I have made here will be completely unique and surprising even to veterans who played through this module many times before. I've always advertised my games as being about 50% roleplay and 50% combat. This is a balance that many are skeptical of but after playing in my games they will tell you it is wholly accurate. There will be a combat -at least- every other session, rather reliably. There might sometimes be exceptions but those are rare and situational. The time in between those combats will be spent resting and getting to know your companions by the campfire, exploring the deep wilds of Barovia, or getting to know the NPCs and uncovering the mysteries and secrets of the tormented souls who are trapped in the Mists alongside you. There is a diverse cast of homebrewed NPCs that have been created to flesh out the setting; you will find plenty of them in just about every major settlement and even a few in places you might not expect. In this game you can expect challenging, yet rewarding combats against monsters, minions and bosses: all with modified, custom statblocks. The threat level of the average enemy is likely to be much higher than what you could expect out of a RAW game. However, you will be empowered to meet these greater threats through scaling items, custom Feats, and a sped up levelling progression. There will be highs and lows, triumph and tragedy in near-equal measure. Every battle will be hard-fought. Nothing will be easy; if it were, the Realms would not need Heroes. Will you rise to the challenge, Hero?

About me
Hi everyone! I figured I'd tell you a bit about how I found myself falling in love with Dungeons and Dragons and DMing as a whole. I grew up playing videogames and reading fantasy series that helped me develop a passion for the heroās journey: stories full of hope and despair, tragedy and triumph. This love moved me to explore beyond books and gaming to explore other mediums: comics, anime, and eventually, TTRPG actual plays like Fantasy High and Unsleeping City. The first time that I saw people playing Dungeons and Dragons, something clicked instantly. In 2019, I finally found a group to play with, which was the most fun I had ever had in a fantasy setting. Iāve been running games since 2020: all modified versions of existing D&D 5e modules that include homebrew enhancements to make the story more compelling. If you were to ask me about what would be in store for you in one of my games? I would say I want your characters to feel powerful, heroic and triumphant. However, the world is often perilous, challenging and sometimes dreadful, requiring brave heroes like yourself! If you are interested in being a force for good and rising to meet great evil, then I invite you to join us in the Realms of Fate!

Creating your character
(Disclaimer: I do not allow AI art in any of my games. Nor is it allowed to post AI art in our Discord server. I will be happy to help however I can with helping you obtain character art through free resources. We also have many talented artists in our server who would be happy to assist with commissions.) -Character creation can be done in a one-on-one call through Discord or in the General chat of our Discord server, player preference! -Stats are decided through either Point Buy or Rolling (4d6, Drop the Lowest, Reroll 1s). The rolling must be done publicly in Roll20. In the event of truly terrible rolls across the board, I allow players to opt into Point Buy. Similarly, you have the option to either roll for Hit Points or take the average for your class. Keep in mind that I do not allow rerolls when you roll for HP. -The characters will be created on Roll20. They will start at level 3, but keep in mind that leveling progression is fast tracked to 5 in the first few sessions. -I allow any race, class and background combination by default if it is from officially published 5e content. Anything beyond that, it will need to be discussed prior. -Your characters will start with one fully custom, scaling item that we homebrew together. This item will level up with you, gaining new features and providing passive buffs to you all throughout the game.
At the moment, the current party consists of: -Shadar-Kai, Order of the Raven Blood Hunter -Half-Orc, Way of the Kensei Monk -Goliath, Path of the Ancestral Guardian Barbarian -Human, Fate Domain Cleric -Vampire, Order of Zeal Paladin -Human, Gloomstalker Ranger
What to expect

All you need to have is a Discord account and a Roll20 account (Both are free to make!). No additional subscriptions or addons required. Once you have joined the game I will provide you with a link to our private Discord server. :)
What Fatebinder brings to the table
What you can expect from my games: -Ambient music for every situation and location. -Varied combat music playlists, unique theme music for named, recurring threats and bosses. -Flexibility for unique builds, custom homebrew items, scaling magic items, and custom Feats. I often will also reward these things at the end of difficult combat encounters or whenever the group works together in new and clever ways. -Modified statblocks for just about every enemy type you encounter. Most threats you encounter will be either more resilient, more lethal, or will have new ways of surprising you. -Custom Boss/Mini-Boss statblocks. In my games, these encounters are high-level threats that require coordination and teamwork. These are usually not reminiscent or based off of published content and will be entirely custom made for the boss and the boss arena you would be facing them in. If they are based off of an existing statblock they will be so vastly different it will be hardly recognizable. To this point, I would like to give a disclaimer. The bosses and mini-bosses in my games are often resistant if not outright immune to most forms of crowd control and attempts to speech check them to avoid a combat will often be either immensely difficult if not impossible. Not every foe can be reasoned with, nor neutralized with ease.
Homebrew rules
-Modified Critical Hits: Rolled Critical Damage + Max Possible Base Damage = Total Crit Damage e.g. - You make a one-handed attack with a Longsword that rolls a Critical Success (Nat 20). First, you would roll your doubled dice as usual. 1d8+1d8. Then, you would add +16 damage to the rolled damage. That would be your final, total critical hit damage. This ensures that every crit you land feels satisfying and impactful. while also ensuring that combat with threats and enemies you've mostly out-scaled still remain threatening and engaging. ------------------- -Critical Triumphs and Critical Fumbles: Whenever you roll a Critical Success or Critical Failure you roll a 1d100 to see if either becomes a Triumph or Fumble. If you roll below a 54 in either scenario, nothing happens. 55 or Higher? There's different effects at each bracket of number rolled. It's up to Tymora to see just how auspicious or unfortunate your rolls can be. ------------------- -Spell Save/AOE Critical Failure: If you roll a critical failure (Nat 1) on a Saving Throw against a spell, trap or special AOE hazard you will take doubled damage from whatever would harm you. ------------------- -Flanking Rules: āFlankingā is a tactical maneuver that involves positioning two allies within 5 feet of an enemy on opposite sides. When two allies are on opposite sides or corners of an enemy's space, they gain advantage on all melee attack rolls against the enemy. Enemy combatants also benefit from this. ------------------- -Healing Buffs: The healing spells we use in our games are all pulled from DnD 2024. This essentially doubles healing across the board. It is your responsibility to make sure your healing spells are updated as Roll20 will not do it for you, I will be happy to fix things in the moment if you forget to do so however. Often it's as simple as having you roll an extra die. :) ------------------- -Drinking Potions as a Bonus Action: In my opinion, this is an obvious necessary change lol. It's a bonus action to drink a potion yourself, and an action to give it to someone else. ------------------- -No Magic Item Attunement: You don't need to attune to magic items to wield them in this game, effectively removing the cap on magic items you can use at any given point. This does also mean it is sometimes easier to bind yourself to a Cursed magic item, but that's nothing a Remove Curse can't solve!

How Fatebinder creates a safe table
It is my absolute priority to make sure that everyone at the game table feels welcome, included and safe. This is and will always be an LGBTQ+ friendly table and we encourage everyone to be themselves, while also being mindful of the other players at the table. In my games, the preferred way to keep people safe is using the Lines and Veils system. When you sign up for my game, and receive a link to our Discord, you will see there is a section for Lines and Veils submission. This will be an anonymous Google Form you will fill out. All you need to do is list what game you are playing in, and you can outline everything you feel is necessary to protect your peace of mind and mental health. When you are listing these out, you will classify them into a Line (These lines will never be crossed. This content will not be mentioned, shown or alluded to in the game.) or a Veil (This is content that may show up in session, be mentioned or alluded to, but will usually be handled through fade to black, or it may happen offscreen.) This ensures that everyone can anonymously and safely let me know what I can do to keep them enjoying the game without feeling uncomfortable, anxious or afraid. Once I have everyone's Lines and Veils for the Campaign. We will meet for our Session 0 to discuss these Lines and Veils as a group, clarify any if needed, and ensure that everyone collectively agrees to honor the Lines and Veils put forward before we start our game. The Lines and Veils are also compiled into one publicly viewable document that I will pin in the server, so you may view it at any time and refresh your memory. I will be checking the Forms sheet for changes regularly and updating the public doc as needed. Everyone comes to DnD to have fun and no one deserves to have that experienced soured. :) Below you will notice I have outlined a considerable amount of Content Warnings. I would like to mention that not all of these are guaranteed to show up, but as someone who has run Curse of Strahd before I know that most if not all of the ones listed have a strong possibility of appearing depending on what or who the group is contending with at the time. Curse of Strahd is a dark, heavy campaign in a bleak setting. I can and will make adjustments where I can but there are some dark themes that may be unavoidable in order for the narrative to progress. These include death (including child death), murder, drinking/draining blood, gore, stalking and body horror.
