About the adventure

The Golden Vault is an organization shrouded in mystery; those who heard of it often think it's a folk tale, while others praise it for doing what needs to be done where the law will not allow. Those in the know are aware that the organization rights moral wrongs, supports virtuous underdogs, and handles delicate situations local authorities won’t touch. The Golden Vault’s motto reflects its primary motivation: “Do good, no matter the cost.” As the newest recruits, you're all aware that missions from the Golden Vault are often illegal, but they always support a just, moral cause. Its members are near undetectable in their civilian lives, but this works to their advantage when it comes to protecting the multiverse. The Golden Vault has received some intel that not all is right at Strixhaven University. Anomalies are popping up left and right, leaving an air of unease and the potential for calamity. Your mission as undercovesr operative is to investigate these abnormal occurrences and stop whatever threat may be brewing at Strixhaven. Getting you trained up is just a bonus for the organization, but it is required. Strixhaven University is the premier academy for the arcane arts. It's an enchanting place, filled with magic and mischief at every corner. The university boasts many places where students can study magic and many sages who take eager learners under their wings. But being accepted to Strixhaven University is a special honor, the dream of many young students. Strixhaven is a place of enlightenment and learning, and both its graduates and its delegates are typically welcomed and respected wherever they go. The Five Colleges of Strixhaven: Lorehold: The College of Archaeomancy, dedicated to history and the spirits of the past. Students here are passionate about understanding ancient secrets, artifacts, and the echoes of the past that can inform the future. Prismari: The College of Elemental Arts, where magic meets creativity. Students combine art and magic, weaving spells with movements, songs, and creative expressions to create breathtaking displays and fearsome attacks. Quandrix: The College of Numeromancy, where logic, mathematics, and magic blend. Quandrix students study arcane formulas and sacred geometry to shape the very fabric of reality itself. Silverquill: The College of Eloquence, masters of rhetoric, charm, and persuasive spells. Silverquill students wield words as weapons, both in debates and in combat. Witherbloom: The College of Life and Death, where students study the balance between decay and growth. Witherbloom mages learn about the cycle of life and manipulate vitality and death with ease. During your life as a student, you will attend classes, socialize, and explore all the campus has to offer. The school is filled with colorful characters, mysteries, and places to explore. You never know what information your classmates may or may not hold. The next 4 years will be hectic between studies and missions.

About me

My name’s Unicorn, and I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons for about six years now, mostly as a Dungeon Master. I run roleplay-heavy campaigns where character stories take center stage, and I love weaving players’ backstories into the world so everyone feels like their character truly belongs in it. I’m a big believer in the Rule of Cool. If it’s creative, cinematic, or just plain awesome, I’ll find a way to make it happen. My goal is to give everyone their moments to shine and to build something unforgettable together. At my table, collaboration comes first; we’re not just playing a game, we’re co-creating a story full of emotion, adventure, and magic.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done before the session with the following criteria: - Stats are rolled in Roll 20 with the macro provided in the Discord - 2014 character creation rules and take one feat to start OR 2024 character creation rules (please do not mix them. If you have a weapon mastery, it is wholly on the player to remember them in session) - Create your character sheet in the provided D&D Beyond campaign

What to expect

Preparing for the session

For this adventure, you will need to do the following: - Have a Roll20 account (this will be used for maps) - Build your character in the campaign on D&D Beyond before the session (this will be used for rolling) - Join the Discord (this will be used for voice chat) - Fill out your lines and veils document that will be sent to you once you join the adventure

What Unicorn brings to the table

I will be providing players access to my D&D Beyond compendium for character creation, music to enhance the experience, and maps to visually aid story progression

Homebrew rules

Nat 20 rules: - On a save, if you get a nat 20 you take no damage - On initiative, if you get a nat 20 you react so quickly, you get a surprise attack round - On a save for an effect, you become immune to that effect (ie if something were to poison you, you are immune to that effect for the scene) Potion Rules: - Administering a potion to someone else is an action - Drinking a potion is a bonus action - Passing a potion to someone else is a bonus action Talking During Combat: - Talking is a free action unless you are trying to accomplish something. If you wish to make a roll to achieve that goal, it is an action. Leveled Spells: - You may use multiple leveled spells on a turn, so long as they are within the player's action economy (i.e. You can cast guiding bolt as an action and healing word as a bonus action on the same turn) Rolling: - You may use physical dice as long as you call out what you have rolled

Safety

How Unicorn creates a safe table

I will be sending an anonymous link to a line and a document that players will be required to fill out. We will be reviewing the line for the session at the start of the one-shot and all relevant veils before we begin playing. We will also be going over X, N, and Os, which are to be directly messaged to me, the Game Master, for anonymity. We may take one or more breaks during the session, depending on where everyone is at. There will be one break around the midway point of the adventure, regardless.
