About the adventure
One of the introduction scenarios to Call of Cthulhu, featured within it's 7e Corebook, Amidst The Ancient Trees takes you on the eerie adventure of chasing criminals, experiencing the hauntings of the powers of the cosmos and giving you an immersive experience to the unraveling nature that can happen anywhere in the world. Or, beyond our understanding of it. You'll come face to face with cultists, troubled men and mangled aftermaths. Possibly becoming a prisoner to the very cryptic institutions that slowly unravel in the neighboring area. While a chance of death is moderate, danger lurks around every character. Each character you come across, there's a chance for something to go wrong. Even a chance to lose your life or, something not as terrible, you prolong the search for this kidnapped person. If you're brave and willing, you'll see the end of the scenario and have a new perspective on how scary a lake or a mine can be. Be watchful of your step, investigator. There's always something hiding underneath the leaves.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Born and raised on the central East Coast of America. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons on/off for the last four years, have ran a couple one-shots, but have enjoyed the scarier aspects of TTRPGs. Mainly the cosmic horror elements of Call of Cthulhu, and any media that emulate that level of dreadful despair. My first taste for it was The Last Apprentice book series when I was a child and it only grew from there. Later on it was comics, movies and even some songs that continue to inspire me in developing more intense worlds to be a part of or further develop.

Creating your character
Before the session starts would be easiest, with a general background needed to foster your character within the story. I can provide any additional information needed based on time period, region or whatever else. For ease, please create your character here: https://dholeshouse.org/Characters/Default You will need to create a free account to use this website. I will need an additional file from your created character, as the Foundry VTT system has an import wizard for ease of use. Please have your skill capped at 75% when creating a character, as anything higher in the game would relate you to being a "Master" at said skill. While I'm comfortable with that happening in other scenarios, you're, more or less, meant to be more common folk. A policeman of the town, local farmer, etc that is assisting with finding the missing child. I am open to creative occupations, but please remain as realistic as possible. The game system can be unforgiving. If you have questions, please bring them to my attention asap.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I will send you an invite link to the official game, but you will need to make an account for The Forge. Link: https://forge-vtt.com/ Creating an account is free. If you wish to, please research how Foundry VTT is used. If you don't, no worries. Even I'm still learning it's ends and outs. Additionally, there will be a Discord server you will be joining for said adventure. It will be set up for the game and, when established, private threads within the main channel to discuss privately to each other. Each running of every scenario will have it's own private channels and threads; which will be shut down upon the ending of each playthrough. There will be places to converse with others that have taken part in my runnings, but your continued participance in the Discord is entirely up to you.
What Chris brings to the table
I do not have music at this moment, nor am I that well with character voices, but I do attempt at developing nuances to the characters as I continue to explore them. Typically, I focus on the Rules As Written playstyle, but I'm not against Rules of Cool. I believe the Rules of Cool are meant to be there for exciting moments, but even those moments come at a higher risk of performance. Jumping from a cliff might save you time, but you landing could break your leg. How will the party recover from an injured player? Healing takes time, and not every scenario has the ability to have time. There's lives on the line, and not all risks are worth the reward.
Homebrew rules
I will leave it to the party, every time, to determine if a loss of health, in the end, is an immediate death or just the player falling unconscious with sustained injuries.

How Chris creates a safe table
You will be sent a Lines and Veils Google Sheet, where I will request you make a copy of it and send me a screenshot of it back. I will assist if you don't know how to directly copy a Google Sheet to your own gmail directory. You will be asked to extend the list personally if you find my list to be too short or not specific enough to your standards. Some standards will be unavoidable, and that will be discussed. There's parts of CoC that can't be skipped, such as madness, death, etc. During Session 0, we will establish the allowance of certain behaviors or expectations. If some members find something uncomfortable, that subject will be deemed to be off the table with warnings established. The player will not be outed, as it is their right to privacy on the matter. What you wish to share with others based on personal boundaries is up to you. I have the immediate expectation of letting people talk and work on issues together. Teamwork is a must. You have a high chance of losing your character if you attempt lone wolf adventuring. Not by me, but by the natural consequences of how the stories will unfold. When it comes to X, N & Os, please keep them in a message. I will not require a video call, as that will be based on what you prefer to have on or not. You will have a private thread with just me able to read the text, as that's how I will pass you information related to each scenario. I do apologize if it takes a moment to realize or if I take a moment to catch my breath, looking to establish how move on from the moment, depending on the moment. It may stump me, but I promise that I'll be mentally searching for an opportunity to push forward regardless. When it comes to Aftercare, I do not define that as my responsibility. The expectations will be addressed in Session 0. The table it's self is not your support system, as that is what we burden our friends and family with. We will not be held reliable for your behavior, but I will do my best to make everyone at the table as comfortable as possible.
