About the adventure

Ever watch Firefly? Ever seen A New Hope and thought "Damn every single person in that Cantina is cool as HELL!" Then this is the game for you. We're going on a journey. A Star Wars journey. Set in the classic 'Rise of the Empire' time, our story will begin after it's already started. The Empire is building it's Death Star, the Rebel Alliance is starting to come together, but you? Well you might care, but right now you're just some schlub on a Freighter. Or are you? The life you lead before you joined the crew is your own, and there's a world of possibilities, but what your 'friends' don't know won't hurt em'. Some of you have been on board for a while, some just joined the other day. What matters is that the galaxy is a dangerous place, and you're in this together. Tatooine makes a great place to hide out, but hiding only works for so long. The ship is starting to fall apart, and some of you have obligations in places from Coruscant to Nal Hutta. It's time to find work, it's time to get yourselves out there and find your way.

About me

Hi there! My name is Chris! I'm a twice transplanted German formerly living in the US and now moved to the United Kingdom. I've played one form of TTRPG or another for nearly two decades now. Starting originally with Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition and quickly expanding into other systems. From the Old Modern Age, and Vampire the Masquerade system to 'forgotten' favourites like Edge of Empire. With a particularly expertise in Pathfinder/Starfinder 2e and Call of Cthulu. For the last ten years me and a close group of friends have been running our own 'One-Shots' among each other. Taking different systems and adapting stories to fit into them. In this group I've dabbled in everything from 7th Sea to Blade in the Dark. This quickly helped me find my three absolute favourite systems, Blades, Call of Cthulu, and Genesys. Which is what I try to run most of my games in! I'm looking to run games that are player focused and story driven. Though I enjoy many pre-written adventures from Chaosium, Paizo, and other 3rd party mediums I'm a big fan of divergent story telling and letting Players expand the universe they're in.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation is going to be guided by me entirely pre-session. I will sit with each player that joins one on one, or during a small meet and greet to help you design your perfect Star Wars Character. We'll be using Foundry VTT for everything, though don't worry if you prefer pen&paper sheets because there's plenty of opportunity to make that too. Foundry will simply streamline things to start with and will help explain some of the more complicated features of Genesys. There are no 'levels' in the system, instead experience is used to purchase everything from skills to talents. Every session you'll earn a bit of XP which you can save up, or spend right away! Though don't worry about figuring it all out now, I will be guiding you through everything step by step. All you NEED before you join is think of what kind of character you want to play. Are you smuggler like Han Solo? A rebel agent trying to find criminal contacts? An Imperial hunting rebels in disguise? As long as you have a reason to be on the crew(and cooperate with your fellow players) you're golden. We can do all the fine tuning together! For this in particular, we will actually be using the Fantasy-Flight Games purpose made books; Edge of Empire, Age of Rebellion, and Force & Destiny, plus all the supplements there within. If you're really gung-ho and want to take a look for yourself the Community for the game is absolutely awesome and has crafted a wiki that has quite literally everything in the books; https://star-wars-rpg-ffg.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars_RPG_(FFG)_Wiki

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Easy! Once you join the game you'll just have to join a Discord server. After that there will be a link to a Foundry VTT server which you can click and join as the games start. The Discord server will also have a resources tab which will contain a link to everything you'd ever need to play the game.

What Chris Werner brings to the table

For most scenes, I'll provide detailed and overt descriptions just like I would if we were all sitting at a classic table. We'll be using Foundry VTT mostly for character sheets and dice rolls. But I'll also be using it to provide some ambient music in cool moments, maps for Space Stations and Cities(when possible), and maybe every once in a while a neat leaflet or thematic prop. I'm a players DM at heart, so I lean slightly more into the rule of cool than being a stickler. The FFG system has very good backing for pretty much every situation, but sometimes the narrative flow becomes far more important. Don't expect me to ignore rules entirely, but bending them will probably happen more often than not! I do my best to keep up with character voices, but I'm no voice actor! As long as you can tell which NPC is talking, I'm generally happy. I do believe in heavy immersion and roleplay and would love for my players to feel the same. So even if I can't make the voice, I play every character to the best of my ability to help you feel a part of the world.

Safety

How Chris Werner creates a safe table

Player Safety and comfort is extremely important to me. We'll be using several checks and safety tools to ensure everyone remains comfortable throughout the game. To start off with, Certain Lines and Veils will be in place from the beginning. Some decided by me, and then some decided by you the Players as we begin our first session. This will be a running list kept both in Foundry and our Discord Server. I'll also be making it clear these can be DM'd to me at any time to ensure everyone is comfortable. Beyond that, I'm a big believer in debriefing and aftercare. I will always check in with folk and take in any feedback necessary. We're here to have fun, and I want to make sure everyone is having it. Keeping in mind that Roleplay can get intense, we'll also let people call for 10-15min Breaks in sessions so people can have time to relax a bit or maybe make a few more jokes(or even just use the bathroom). Aside from this, though I've not used them before we'll also be implementing X, N, & O cards through digial messages to me. I think this will help curate content, though in truth with other measures in places my hope is that only the O card will ever be used. That all being said, this is Star Wars! We're not venturing into any Grimdark areas.
