About the adventure

Set in modern-day Rome, this campaign pits the Players against a well-established congregation of vampires. With a focus on strategy, tactics and roleplay, the story revolves on the Players and their every move to take down a massive organization, step by step. The Cuckoo. Work under the Hototogisu corporation to expand commercial operations into modern Rome. Ally and subjugate both mortals and undying. The Eagle. The watchful gaze of the Vatican permits Hunters big and small to attain a large amount of information on the Enemy. But the Eagle has been poisoned by the Snake. The Snake. Uncover a horrid hierarchy of vampires who've lodged themselves deep in the throat of life in Rome. From radical politics to organized crime to local government, everything has been infiltrated. Tradecraft. Steal and barter as you employ every necessary skill to conduct a war in the shadows. You're covert operatives behind enemy lines - being discovered is a death sentence.

About me

More often than not, I'll be obsessing over a specific style of play, which means I'm shifting through themes and mechanics constantly. Started out with Cyberpunk 2020, have run CPRED, VTM V5, CY_BORG, Mork Borg, F.I.S.T., Night's Black Agents, ECOPUNK 2044, Silt Verses RPG. In general, I prefer indie titles with a focus on roleplay. I believe that the only way to find out things about yourself is through imagining characters. There's a little bit of ourselves in those characters and that agency helps us approach the darkest parts of our soul from a safe distance. I love the way sci-fi fuses with real life, how believable the tech, life and injustices of the Cyberpunk world are. I picked up GMing because I love telling stories and writing from my experiences. My Universe, my World is one of continuity, each player that passes through my table can leave their mark on the City, be it through urban legends or nuclear detonations or high-priced assassinations. My favorite part of GM-ing is worldbuilding. Expect decrepit descriptions of desolate dumps, vivid visual graphics, suave sounds (music, ambience and everything in-between). I love to stimulate all the senses and tell a story through all the mediums. That means more gunshots in the combat zones and more Air Vehicles in the executive areas.

Character creation

Creating your character

This campaign utilizes the core Hunter: The Vigil 2e book for its ruleset and character creation. I recommend using the Mr. Gone 4 page character sheet linked here: https://mrgone.rocksolidshells.com/pdf/HtV/HtV_2ndED_4-Page_Interactive.pdf Players will need to draft their own character sheets using the rulebook. However, a Session 0 will be held (free of charge), for the players to create a Cell - the group themselves, as well as a few stories that tie them together, deciding upon common values and a Code. In addition to the general point spread, Players gain 35 Experiences to spend on their starting characters, starting the game as Seasoned Soldiers (p. 75 HTV 2e). They can also contact the Storyteller on Discord for any inquiries regarding character creation. Every time a new character is introduced, players, together with the Storyteller, will decide upon relationships that the character has with the other PCs.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Join the Discord server: https://discord.gg/nKFmabgr2h - Message me (@aj_gman) on Discord so we can set up a pre-game interview to get to know each other! - Let me know about your Lines & Veils so I can add them to the Google Docs containing all the Lines & Veils for the campaign! Notes: Please sign up only if you have a decent microphone. Please sign up only if you're interested in deep roleplay and character-focused gameplay. AI-generated characters will be rejected without question.

What G-man brings to the table

Storyteller Expectations - Players can expect a mix of narrative and character-driven stories, with opportunities for them to shine using both mechanics and wits/strategy; - As the GM, I've ran campaigns of Hunter & of Vampire in this specific setting before which, although homebrewed, is very intricately detailed, kept in check using Obsidian - I really care about telling an interesting story, but I want the players to engage with it; as such, I am a big fan of players foiling NPC plans; actions always have consequences! Discord will be used for the sessions. - Before every session, a Discord event will be made on the server, giving some insight for the upcoming session; - In-between sessions, players will have access to a private channel where they can discuss both OOC and IC; - Players will also have access to a Conspiracy Board linked in Discord, made via Excalidraw, which will be updated by both the Storyteller and the players themselves; - Players will be able to access the Resources channel (containing maps, rules, homebrew, guides, art), as well as the Soundtrack channel, which they can use to suggest music; - We will be using a Discord music bot, Kenku FM, for music and ambience; *regarding dice rolling, we have a dedicated bot for Chronicles of Darkness-specific rolls, but players can also use physical dice if they so desire. Games will sometimes use Owlbear Rodeo. A link for the website will always be provided at the beginning of the session. - Battlemaps will sometimes be used both for immersion and combat if need be; - Pictures of NPCs, environments and other memorabilia will be posted on Owlbear and, upon request, also on the Discord;

Homebrew rules

For the enemies, I will be utilizing Vampire: The Requiem 2e as the baseline for drafting up characters. As such, knowledge of VTR 2e represents a slight advantage regarding the groups and hierarchies of vampires in our game.

Safety

How G-man creates a safe table

After the end of every session, we will discuss as a group what we enjoyed and what we disliked about the session, including things such as music (too loud/distracting?), ambience (specific triggers that weren't mentioned previously, like dogs barking), characters (if they were too pushy or not), but also our expectations for the future sessions. This is both a session for feedback/debriefing (from the GM to the players, from the players to the GM and for players by other players), as well as a short aftercare for any sort of bleed-through of emotional depth from the story into real life. Breaks will occur every two hours, usually at the midpoint of the session. However, the players can take a break at any point as long as they let the GM know! * Note: sometimes, if the story is too exciting and if the players unanimously agree, sessions may be extended by half an hour to an hour. We will keep a Google Docs where players can anonymously add and keep track of everybody's triggers, lines & veils, linked to each group specifically for easy tracking. X, N & O cards will be sent via DM on Discord to the GM.
