About the adventure

Survive...Solve...Save. Pick one. Mothership's tone and feel is adjacent to that of the 1979 movie, Alien, directed by Ridley Scott. If you are comfortable with the content of that movie, you should be comfortable with the content in my Mothership games. There will be body horror, death, dismemberment, and lots of trauma. I've based this one-shot off of "Another Bug Hunt", an official introductory adventure for Mothership®. The Company has diverted the players' ship from their transport mission to investigate a strange distress signal from a research base on the surface of Sansa VI. The base hasn't reported in for three days. Does that sound familiar? Well maybe it does but it isn't! The players will start their adventure as their dropship lands near the base. The captain still can't hail anyone inside but has received a new, even more bizarre signal on his ship's comms. Your away team will have three hours to investigate before incoming storms will prevent departure and delay return to the mothership. The base is dark and silent. What the hell is going on here?

About me

I run high‑stakes adventures that blend daring exploration with meaningful character growth. My favorite thing about being a Game Master or Warden is watching a group of players discover new facets of their characters while solving problems and overcoming adversity together. I have been playing and running games for decades but I played in my first online game in March of 2025. Since then, I’ve played and run online games in Daggerheart, Knave, Cairn, Shadowdark, Mothership, and Vaesen. Startplaying.games is a fantastic hub for newcomers and veterans alike—easy to jump in and rich with diverse games. I can’t recommend it enough. And I appreciate that they use their success to support important causes. When Start Playing holds fundraisers, I donate all of my game fees to them. My goal is simple: contribute to a safe, welcoming online community where anyone—regardless of age, background, or experience—can enjoy a great tabletop session. Special Offer: Buy a ticket to any of my games and you can bring one friend for free (one‑time per friend). Just message me, and I’ll add them through startplaying.games.

Creating your character

🛸You will need a free mothershipcompanion.com account to play this game. To sign up for the app/site you will need to first download the free app from the Apple and Google Play Stores to your phone. Once you've done that you can sign in through the website. 👽I recommend that you use this app to randomly generate a character or you can use it to build one yourself. 👾We will use mothershipcompanion.com to share character sheets and roll dice during our game. 📖Detailed character backstories are NOT needed for my one shots. At the start of the session, we will quickly establish the how and why of your group's adventure. Everyone will have common cause to work together.

Safety

How Dom Fortunato creates a safe table

🦺Mothership is a gritty science-fiction horror game and can include some brutal subjects and motifs. I have an open-door policy on discussion of any lines and veils that would allow you to better enjoy this session and can accommodate also most any request. Feel free to contact me about lines and veils at any time. At the start of the session I will ask everyone to complete a Deck of Player Safety. It takes 2 to 3 minutes. ⚞ My lines: We will strictly omit all themes, topics, story, and plot points depicting sexual abuse, sexual assault, or harm to children. 🚫 I do not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, or ableism at my table. 📷 I will have my webcam turned on during the game and will encourage anyone who feels comfortable to do the same. But enabling your webcam is not required. 🚽At the start of the session we will plan bio-breaks but can take them whenever they are needed. After the game we will debrief on the call and have a round of "stars and wishes". Everyone will have the opportunity to ⭐ Give a "star" by describing what they enjoyed most about the game, such as a cool moment, another player's role playing, a tense scene, a clever plan, or a particular ruling or description from the GM. Stars are affirmations and not critiques. 🎂 Express a "wish" by describing things they would like to see more of in the future, such as more investigation, more combat, more spotlight time for a character, a return to a certain plot thread, or a specific tone. Wishes are forward-looking and not complaints about past performances.
