About the adventure

A campaign that will be character driven, within the frame of the story at hand. Character themes and choices help advance the story in new ways. There will of course be quests and goals, but it is ultimately up to the party as a whole how they tackle an objective, should they attempt so. A classic woodland setting that harbors small towns and communities. With the old Elven woods of Cormanthor all around, there is no shortage of ruins to uncover, particularly the one city that has been made more famous as ruins than it was as an actual thriving city, Myth Drannor.

About me

Hello there! I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons for about 25 or so years, along with a few other TTRPGs. I have had experience as a Dungeon Master for about 20 of those. Within the last few years I've really started to enjoy the possibilities and the creativity that being a DM has to offer, and have started to run more and more games, trying to up my repertoire of voices and creative thinking. My greatest joy with being a DM is the ability to bring people from different walks of life together to tell a communal story.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together as a group during the session zero. Rules will be strictly from the newest 2024 rules set. Starting level will be 2nd. Stats will most likely be point buy, but that can also be discussed during the session zero.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Most importantly you will need a steady internet connection. - A working microphone and headphones or a headset - You will need an account for both Roll20 and Discord. Neither of these need to be paid accounts. Ideally a basic understanding of how both of these work will make everything run much more smoothly. - I will provide the Discord Server and game on Roll20 - Webcams are entirely optional. I will always have mine on, as I feel it is important to help show facial expressions, especially for dialogue or important things in a dungeon. The same can be said of players as well. Showing your face helps me ensure you are engaged and can help me know how to steer a story.

What Dungeon Mister brings to the table

I always try to do an "attempt" at character voices.Wether or not they are a success depends on the audience. But, I'd rather have practicing voices than none at all. It helps with the immersion greatly. There will ideally be a good mix of all three pillars of the game. Combat, Roleplay and Exploration. I also almost always make custom maps for every scenario with detailed lighting and usually ambient (or dramatic) music, depending on the scene. I also lean on the side of Rule of Cool, as long as it doesn't get too overpowered or overplayed. The rules are there for a reason, but I always want my players to think outside of the box and do the cool thing!

Homebrew rules

Homebrew rules will be discussed during session zero, and none of the house rules I use are set in stone. Different house rules for different houses (or games). I almost always implement some sort of check to be revived from death via magic.

Safety

How Dungeon Mister creates a safe table

I generally try to keep things more loose for player safety and aftercare. Much like house rules, what works for one group may not work for another. I do go over options of what we'd like to avoid during the session zero, as well as set guidelines for all players involved. I generally stick around after the session to check in and talk about the game or anything relevant. I am also almost always available to my players to speak to about nearly anything.
