About the adventure
Thousands of years ago, a comet sped across the night sky, raining small fragments of vibrant blue crystal. These crystals were quickly discovered to be powerful magical tools: they power spells, disappearing after a single use. An arcanocracy arose with this discovery, and crystals were gathered and warehoused. The stores were vast, and it was thought that reverse engineering would ensure the supply forever. The druids denounced the use of crystals over the more "natural" elemental magics, and withdrew from civilization entirely when they were not heeded. Millennia have passed; attempts to reverse engineer the crystals have utterly failed, but the comet has been as regular as clockwork – every century, it appears and deposits crystals on the planet below. Except this time, it’s late. The crystal reserves are running short. Some of the Mudders -- the unofficial voice of all those who don't use magic -- are taking advantage of the unease to foment rebellion against the arcanocracy. Crystal hunter teams are being privately funded, sent farther and farther afield to remote locations to recover crystals that were overlooked in previous gathering expeditions. The secrets of using mundane objects as spell components have been lost to history (or have they...?). ------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to Taveia! This is my homebrew world, with lots of breadth and depth. Do you want to save the world and discover the secrets of the comet? The crystal crisis awaits your derring-do. Do you want to explore the ancient ruins of the previous civilization, the knowledge of whose existence is actively suppressed by the Arcanocracy? There are dozens of sites to investigate. Do you want to buy a tavern and get to know the locals? There are small towns and capital cities to settle in, with a huge range of species, cultures, and histories.

About me
Welcome! I'm DM Lacara, from the DM Roundtable on YouTube and the Enclave Discord server. I've played TTRPGs for 15 years, and have been DMing a full homebrew world 5e campaign for almost 2 years. These days, I prefer running Enclave missions: ask me about the system! I love light-hearted, cozy settings with lots of fun side quest potential, allowing my players to explore and bond without a sense of impending doom. Epic stories don't have to be stressful stories, and character development doesn't have to imply trauma; join my table and leave refreshed!

Creating your character
Players can be any 5e 2014 class except Druid, including those from supplementary books. I don’t run for evil characters, so please keep alignments to good/neutral. I’m happy to run a free character-building session zero for everyone, to make sure the group meshes well and has backstories that fit into the world. I recommend starting at level 3, since that’s when you get your first useful specialization within your class. Characters can be made on any platform, as long as the sheet is viewable for me (this includes photos of a paper sheet).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Games will run with audio/video on Discord and battles in Roll20. I will share links for my Discord server and Roll20 after sign-up.
What Lacara brings to the table
Taveia is my baby, and I've run several campaigns here already. The world is full of detail, colorful NPCs, and mysteries under every unturned stone. I'm happy to build a campaign around the desires of the players. This setting lends itself equally well to exploration, political intrigue, cozy adventures, or high fantasy epic-ness. As a GM, I run much more to the "Rule of Cool" end of the spectrum. My setups in Roll20 are not fancy, but my NPCs are memorable and distinct. If the table is comfortable with it, I'm also happy to change some of the major combat mechanics to make battles feel more immersive. 5e combat is the most boring mechanic I've ever encountered, and there's simple ways to pick up the pace, encourage teamwork, and minimize downtime.
Homebrew rules
Since Taveia is run by crystal-based magic, crystals are necessary to cast spells (even cantrips). The sole exception here are spells that are racial features. However, I don’t make players keep track of every tiny sliver of crystal they use — coins and crystals are interchangeable currency, so the assumption is that unless you’re doing a very high-level spell, you’re essentially casting it with pocket change.

How Lacara creates a safe table
My games are universally PG-13 and I stay away from dark themes in general. However, if anyone has a topic or theme that does not fall into an obvious category (e.g., a fear of carrots), please let me know when you submit your focus word. Player aggression is not allowed in-game or at the table. I have a zero tolerance policy on this, and anyone who I deem to be acting in an uncivil manner will be removed from the game.
