About the adventure

In a world where everything has been discovered and the wilds places have all been found, catalogued and tamed, true adventure is in short supply. Adventurers are found more often in story books than in your local tavern and the steady march of technology makes it easier to "civilize" the world. However, a magical accident tears open a portal to a new realm, wild and untamed. As word of this new land spreads, those with these lost adventuring skills are once again needed to risk it all in discovering and possibly settling this new land. And while this calling is available to all, it brings with it a risk. The portal only works one way and opens and closes irregularly, so anyone who passes through must adapt to this untamed world or die trying. Tame the wilderness; discover wonders never-before seen; engage in the political intrigue of new settlements trying to establish themselves; solve the mysteries left within the scattered ruins of the land; start YOUR adventure! This game is open to players of any experience, background, lifestyle and age and is the first chapters of a tale I hope to run through the higher levels (17-20).

About me

Have been involved in the TTRPG community for the better part of 20 years and have been running games for the past 10. Narrative driven game master with a love of storytelling and collaboration. Most familiar with DnD, however I have played and run a myriad of games from Vampire: The Masquerade to The Dresden Files RPG and am always interested in learning a new RPG system or setting!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created as part of a free session 0. We will be using a 'Roll Four, Drop Lowest" system. We will all be rolling stats together and all players will have the same stats to assign, to prevent too wide a variance of character power. We, as a group, can determine whether we're using the 2014 ruleset or moving to the 2024 ruleset. All classes, subclasses and races are available, though some races will need some creative narrative elements in one's backstory, but I'm more than happy to work with anyone to make sure their character fits. Homebrew classes, races, spells and the like would need approval beforehand, but I'm always happy to review and tweak, if necessary. You can use any digital character creator or use good ol' paper and pencil for your character sheet, though I may ask you to scan or take a picture of it so I have the ability to access it if you're missing a session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All that I require is a mic and headphones and a willingness to learn and have fun! I would love for you to have a character idea beforehand, but even if you're coming into this with nothing really concrete, I'm more than happy to help collaborate on a character you'll have fun playing for the campaign! Games will be played on Discord as well as on either Roll20 or DnDBeyond (to be determined as a group). You can create accounts on both of these websites for free and I'll be happy to assist in creating an account/character sheet if needed.

What Stefan brings to the table

I play my games on AboveVTT (through DnDBeyond) or Roll20, depending on my player's preference, though my preference has been shifting towards Roll20. Utilizing the chosen platforms, I will have maps and character tokens ready and available to help visualize battlefields, maps and the like. I do use bots through discord channels to play ambient music. I will admit that I am not the best at utilizing character voices, but that doesn't stop me from trying at times; for better or worse. Finally, I am always Rule of Cool over Rules as Written. I love homebrew and creating customized rules, settings, creatures, subclasses and more. That being said, balance is always important to keep, so I do veto things at times so as not to skew the balance of the game. This campaign, I am hoping, will be a bit of a sandbox where the players can develop their story as they see fit. If you wish to focus on settlement building, exploring the unknown wilds, diving into political intrigue, or a different option I never even imagined... I want to facilitate that story!

Homebrew rules

I usually modify flanking(+2 per flanking character vs advantage) and only allow flanking from the right, left or rear. Critical hits use the 'Perfect Critical' mechanic (Max Damage+ Regular Roll Damage) and you can drink a potion with a bonus action, but it takes an action to give another player a potion. I'm always open to hearing homebrew rules or ideas that may make the game function better and easier.

Safety

How Stefan creates a safe table

Prior to Session 0, I will be sending out a comprehensive checklist to define and share boundaries that exist. These will be further discussed at Session 0 so everyone is aware of the boundaries. Once game begins, I will be checking in on after particularly stressful sessions. The X, N, & O's will be defined and communicated in private character channels, should someone feel uncomfortable with what is happening. This helps provide anonymity so nobody feels pressure to push through something if they're feeling uncomfortable.
