About the adventure
A missing professor. A disturbing case in New England. An investigation that refuses to stay small. A conspiracy reaching far beyond what anyone expected. Shadows of Yog-Sothoth is one of Call of Cthulhu’s classic globe-spanning campaigns. A slow-burning investigation that begins with academic curiosity and unfolds into a confrontation with forces beyond human comprehension. What starts as a search for answers expands into an international mystery involving hidden cults, forbidden knowledge, and a threat that has been quietly developing for decades. This campaign emphasises atmosphere, investigation, and character-driven play. Survival is never guaranteed, and investigator decisions shape how events unfold across multiple locations. Expect: • Deep investigative play • Layered clues and interconnected mysteries • Tension that builds steadily over time • Meaningful consequences • A grounded 1920s setting with global scope This is a long-term commitment campaign designed for players who enjoy sustained narrative arcs and developing their characters over time. The tone is serious, immersive, and suspenseful rather than pulpy or comedic. New players are welcome. The system is accessible, and I provide clear rules guidance and structured support throughout. If you are looking for a professionally run horror campaign with depth, momentum, and genuine stakes, Shadows of Yog-Sothoth offers a rewarding and memorable experience. Session Length: 3 hours Platform: Fantasy Grounds Style: Investigative, atmospheric, long-form horror This game is advertised across multiple available days. Once a particular day fills, that group will run weekly on that day and the remaining listings will be removed. Each group maintains a consistent weekly slot. The stars are shifting. The truth is waiting.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I have been running weekly games on Fantasy Grounds for around ten years and have hosted hundreds of sessions as a virtual Gamemaster. I run a wide range of systems and published campaigns, including Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade, Savage Worlds, and both classic and modern Dungeons & Dragons adventures. Much of my library has been personally converted to Fantasy Grounds from original books or PDFs, allowing me to run fully prepared material without waiting for official releases. Preparation and presentation are important to me. I take pride in creating structured, well organised sessions that maintain momentum while giving players space to explore and develop their characters. My interest in tabletop roleplaying began in the late 1980s with Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, and it has remained a consistent part of my life ever since. What began as a hobby has become a long standing passion for storytelling, adaptation, and immersive play. At the table, I focus on atmosphere, steady pacing, fairness, and player engagement. I aim to create a respectful, collaborative environment where both new and experienced players feel comfortable and involved.

Creating your character
The first session will be a free Session Zero. We’ll talk through the game’s tone and themes, set expectations, agree on table boundaries and the code of conduct, and then create characters together. Players can either create a new investigator with my guidance or choose from a selection of pre-generated characters I’ve prepared. Character creation will follow the standard Call of Cthulhu rules, with stats rolled or assigned during Session Zero so everyone starts on equal footing. All investigators begin as starting characters appropriate to the 1920s setting. No prior system experience is required, and no additional books are needed beyond what I provide. If time allows during Session Zero, we’ll begin the adventure so everyone can ease into play.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before the game, you’ll need the following: A desktop or laptop computer. This game is not suitable for phones or tablets. A headset with a microphone, set to push-to-talk. Laptop microphones, speakers, or playing from across the room won’t work for this game. A Discord account for voice chat. If you’re unfamiliar with Discord, I’m happy to help you get set up. Fantasy Grounds Unity installed and ready to go. You do not need to purchase a licence to play in this game. Don’t worry if you’ve never used Fantasy Grounds before. There’s a small learning curve, but I’ll guide you through the basics, and most players are comfortable after a session or two. It’s a powerful virtual tabletop and well worth learning.
What flashingturtle brings to the table
What I Provide I bring a Fantasy Grounds Ultimate licence and over 10 years’ experience running games on the platform. Players only need Fantasy Grounds Unity installed to join; no purchase or licence is required. I use a large library of maps, tokens, handouts, and images, shared directly to your screen to support immersion and investigation. My GM style prioritises atmosphere, pacing, and player choice. Combat is dangerous and meaningful rather than tactical or grindy. I occasionally use ambient audio or a soundboard to enhance key scenes. New players are very welcome. I’m experienced at teaching both Call of Cthulhu and Fantasy Grounds, and for the first few sessions I can handle rolls and interface elements so you can focus on roleplay and decision-making. I generally run rules as written, with flexibility where it improves flow and tension.

How flashingturtle creates a safe table
This campaign contains themes of cosmic horror, psychological distress, cult activity, and the gradual loss of certainty and sanity. Players may encounter violence, body horror, existential dread, and morally challenging situations. These themes are presented for atmosphere and tension, not shock value. During the free Session Zero, we’ll discuss tone, expectations, and boundaries so everyone knows what kind of experience they’re signing up for. I encourage players to speak up if something feels uncomfortable or isn’t working for them. During play, anyone can pause the game, change direction, or step away at any time. I’m happy to check in after intense scenes and make sure everyone is comfortable before continuing. The aim is to create an unsettling, immersive horror experience that remains respectful and enjoyable for everyone at the table.
