About the adventure

In this campaign, you will play as private detectives, criminals, fixers, freelancers, and mercenaries who end up in over your heads, caught within conspiracies perpetuated by the three massive megacorporations still competing for power and influence over the planet and its future. You will chase leads, infiltrate hideouts, investigate crime scenes, seek out persons of interest, and piece together the truth in a future filled with people who'd prefer it stay hidden for their benefit. This is a cyberpunk noir campaign with a high focus on roleplay and investigation. There will be combat, but it will be highly lethal and not expected as the primary approach for encounters. The game takes place in the near future of 2112 and we will be using a sandbox-lite approach. Players will have significant freedom in what strings they wish to pull on when the game begins, with multiple conspiracies and plots to unravel. The game will follow the players' interests and that will determine what mess the party ultimately ends up in. The game is expected to have an eight to twelve session run, depending on the pace of play and what plots the party ultimately decide to follow. Play this game if you: *Want to experience a noir-tone in a near future dystopia* *Work together to survive a thrilling conspiracy* *Engage in significant roleplay* Your GM is nonbinary and everyone is welcome in this game.

About me

Hi! My name is Tim. I have been playing TTRPGs for about seven years and GMing for about six of them. The games I have the most experience with are FATE, Kids on Bikes, numerous Powered by the Apocalypse Systems, some OSR systems, and 5e, but I have also run several other indie systems and am constantly checking out new indie games. I'm a narrative-focused GM who really enjoys character development and emergent story from gameplay. I do also enjoy combat, but narrative and character development don't turn off when the fight is on! I also love player contributions to the narrative and work with you to incorporate what you want to see for your characters into the storyline. My preferred virtual platform to play on as a GM is Role but I also will use Owlbear Radio depending on the system. I also use Theater of the Mind quite a lot, but typically with visual references. I use Discord for audio and video.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create their own characters using a fillable PDF character sheet or a physical character sheet. Players may use the digital character sheet on the VTT Role if they prefer to do so and have an account. If using a a PDF or physical sheet, please send a copy/photo of the sheet to me either before play or at the start of the first session for quick review. Character creation will also be discussed in the Discord and be completed in Session 0. We will create characters together as a group to ensure narrative cohesion between them going into the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using Discord for voice and video-- a link to the server will be sent to you after you sign up. Microphone/Voice Chat is necessary to play. Video chat is available, but not required. Players must be able to roll physical dice or have access to a digital roller they prefer. Consistent Internet access that can support voice and occasional screensharing is also necessary.

What Tim brings to the table

I will bring a welcoming atmosphere, visual references, maps, and music using Kenku FM (optional for players to listen to). I will also provide a PDF of the Cities Without Number rulebook (though it can be found for free elsewhere if players wish to acquire it themselves).

How Tim creates a safe table

There will be a session 0 where we create characters, discuss subjects we want to tackle and do lines and veils safety check to ensure players are on the same page about which topics are acceptable in play. We will be using a variation of Rewind/Retcon and the X card in play as well.
