About the adventure

You will be at the vanguard when the calls come in. Agents of Section 8, also known as the Henhouse because of the odd London building they occupy, are the first and last line of defence holding back the Outside from overrunning Britain's fortean barricades. Created during the Second World War as a signals interception unit, Section 8 was buffeted from the outside by cold and hot wars, then reforged internally by barely parseable horrors. Yes, this is the world of HP Lovecraft, Derleth and others. But their darkness met its match in the evil that Men did in wartime. The works of Len Deighton and John LeCarré join Mr Lovecraft to gently suggest that there are new rules to this game, no matter the target. One of our diplomats has gone missing. You will be at the vanguard.

About me

43, Scot, he/him. I began running and playing RPGs in 1997. I've run hundreds of games online, in person and at cons. I put in a lot of prep for games in Foundry: character art, music, maps, short films. If you've played Coriolis "Last Flight of the Ghazali" or Delta Green "Last Things Last" and "Impossible Landscapes", you may have seen my community maps in use.

Character creation

Creating your character

There will be a free Session 0 where we will check everyone has a character and an understanding of safety tools. I will give new players guidance as to the range of PC professions available and help them through creation. Experienced players can bring their own PCs after a quick chat about the sort of professional backgrounds Section 8 will recruit from. Pregenerated characters will also be available.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a computer with Discord and a microphone with push to talk enabled. There's no requirement for video. You'll need a free Foundry VTT login to access the game world.

What Richard brings to the table

My games are long on detective work with short, decisive combat that won't always be the best solution to any problem. When there is combat, character death will always be possible. There will be lots of time to devote to making sure all the players interact with the world and each other. I will change mannerisms for NPC with some character voices where easily intelligible for players. I have the full suite of goodies for Foundry, with tokens, rollable tables, maps and funky dice.

Safety

How Richard creates a safe table

Session 0 will include a discussion on the following tools highlighted, and I'll have DMs open. We will make sure the group gels on this stuff before we proceed. There will be no discussion of unnecessary exploitative violence or sexuality, with any adjacent topics kept "offscreen" and inferred.
