About me
Let me tell you a story... Hello and welcome! I'm Raco (or GM Smitty). I am a professional touring musician with an incredible passion for collaborative storytelling and worldbuilding. While creative writing has been my hobby for ages now, my introduction to TTRPGs began in college only a few years ago, with a group of friends who signed up too late for the D&D club deciding to just... make our own! After that, numerous friend groups found out that I played, and from that day forward the 'Forever DM' curse spread its roots throughout my soul, never to be healed again. No matter the game, system, or setting being played at my table, there is one rule that triumphs over all: YOUR story first. I have experience with both beginners and veteran GMers alike, from tables of 2-12+ players. While I still keep to the mechanics and rules of the game, I value creativity and bold choices over all, and I'm nothing if not homebrew friendly! Interweaving arcs, meaningful character growth, and dynamic worlds are my specialty, and my only hope is that you're having as much fun as I am building this wonderful story together. Feel free to message me with any questions, comments, or concerns! (Or just to say hi)

Creating your character
Characters will begin at level 2, unless joining mid-campaign. The Discord server includes a guide on building your characters using D&D Beyond, as well as information regarding the setting-specific subclasses and species from the Crooked Moon setting. There will also be a free session zero meeting beforehand to further explore character options (such as the setting-exclusive 'dark bargains'), the world, and other important topics before starting the sessions (see 'Safety' below). This does not mean characters can't be changed post session zero; if you have a bold idea for your character in retrospect, who am I to blow against the wind? Let's talk about it and have fun! 📖 General Rulings for Character Creation • D&D 2024 Ruleset (using updated backgrounds, classes, species, etc.) • Rolled Stats (this campaign is rooted in fate and chance!)* • Fixed HP Scaling (for seamless leveling and combat balance) • Start with 1 Uncommon Item (discussed at session zero) *If your rolled stats are truly THAT bad, I can allow switching them to standard array. ✏️ (Pre-made characters are also available upon request)
Party Level: 2 Relicborn Warlock Khoravar (Half-Elf) Fighter
What to expect
Preparing for the session
There are only five things you absolutely need before you can embark on your adventure: 1. Computer for simultaneous virtual calls and usage of VTTs. 2. Microphone so we can hear you! (Webcams are optional, but nice) 3. Free Discord account, so you can join the server. 4. Free D&D Beyond account. (Your character sheet, virtual dice, and map view) 5. A wild imagination and a strong heart. This can get spooky... and silly! 📙 OPTIONAL: Reading Up On Lore Once you add at least one character to the D&D Beyond campaign hub, you will have access to the Crooked Moon Part 1: Player Options book, allowing you to peruse through the various lore elements, new species, and subclasses unique to this setting. Of course, you're always free to use other character options available to you. 📢 IMPORTANT! Unless you don't care much for spoilers, DO NOT read the Crooked Moon Part 2: Adventure Campaign book, as it contains a majority of the content within these sessions. No one likes a metagamer!
What Raco 'Smitty' brings to the table
💡 Pre-/Post-Session • Utmost character leniency, allowing expanded and 3rd party content if it deems suitable for the setting and your ideas! • Session Zero, talks in between sessions about limits (see 'Safety' below). • Discussions about connecting your story ideas to the main arc. • A welcoming environment for all types of players. • Active communication for any questions, comments, concerns. 🌘 During Sessions • Fully immersed roleplay and fully committed voices! • Fast-paced combat, favoring tension and bold moves. • Atmosphere rooted in horror, mystery, and suspense. • Reactive music both during exploration and in combat. • Haunting visuals and battle maps for combat clarity. 📚 Resources • D&D Beyond content sharing, granting you access to a wide selection of sourcebooks from WotC and others! • Discord hub for meeting your fellow adventurers! A place to chat about the game and otherwise.
Homebrew rules
🪽 Resurrection One interesting homebrew rule I like to use is the lightly modified 'Fading Spirit' alteration to certain Resurrection spells (casting time of more than an action). The caster must make a challenge roll to see if the spell works, and up to three other characters can try and contribute to the roll with varying degrees of difficulty. More on this ruling will be available to read on Discord. 🗡️ Homebrew Magic Items I am terribly addicted to D&D Beyond's homebrew creation system, and have made a good amount of polished magic items for use in my campaigns. If there just so happens to be a reason for your character to obtain a unique item, or YOU have an idea for equipment, I would love to help build something that suits your needs!

How Raco 'Smitty' creates a safe table
During our session zero (or during discussions between sessions if you're hopping in later) we will be covering topics to both introduce each other and align the table's interests/intentions for the game. Most importantly, we will go over any and all limits that each player has to ensure a safe, stress-free environment. While this is a campaign fueled by elements of horror, and will undoubtedly contain heavy topics as detailed in the 'Content Warnings' section, by no means does this excuse the crossing of boundaries without warning. I will be more than happy to make alterations so you can enjoy the adventure with ease. If the content warnings cross such boundaries in abundance, please let me know and we can discuss whether this campaign is right for you. Other safety tools include session breaks, X/N/O cards (displayed either in the text chat, or voiced), written lists of lines and veils, and post-session aftercare. Let's strive to keep things both fun and safe for everybody.
