About the adventure
Get a taste of the mechanics of Draw Steel -- the new heroic, tactical, cinematic, fantasy RPG from Matt Colville and team at MCDM -- with this adventure designed for convention play. You'll experience tactical combat, montage, and negotiation during this Draw Steel one shot where you'll help a farming village in need! Jump right into the game and learn the rules as we play - no need for any prep in advance. Whether you are looking for your first tabletop roleplaying game, an RPG veteran interested in trying out Draw Steel, or a hero who Draws Steel regularly, this is the table for you! You can expect Draw Steel to be: ⚔️Tactical. Positioning, teamwork, and individual choices matter. ✨Heroic. Leave the scale at home - no need to worry about counting arrows or tracking the minutiae of encumbrance. 🎥Cinematic. Every ability has a strong visual and narrative component, like you're the main cast of a movie. During this adventure, you've teamed up with a merchant, an alchemist, and an herbalist to escort them and their wagon filled with goat medicine to a village in need. With rumors of bandits raids and goblin attacks along the road they won’t take the risk to travel without your group of heroes!

About me
I was a part of playtesting for Draw Steel (find me in tiny print in the books!) and have been directing it since its release. It's currently my go-to TTRPG system! I was in grad school when some friends introduced me to Pathfinder. I couldn't believe there were mechanics for all the world building I used to do for fun. I've been hooked on TTRPGs since! I enjoy a wide variety of systems and love learning and teaching new games. I focus on fun and providing a collaborative storytelling and problem-solving experience.

Creating your character
MCDM pre-generated character sheets will be provided. You'll have the opportunity to select from 9 options on a first-come, first-served basis.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need to have a Discord account and join a server for our game. We'll use a Voice/Video channel (cameras are optional!) in the server for gameplay. We'll use Owlbear Rodeo for grid maps - you do not need to create an account for this service, just follow a link and enter your name. You'll need to select a character from the MCDM provided starter characters. I'll share both PDF and Forge Steel versions for you to choose from. You do not need to read or watch anything in advance - we'll learn the rules as we play!
What Emma brings to the table
I like to be my players' biggest cheerleader! I want to see you do cool things (and I'll help with the mechanical details as needed!) I always try to make sure that rules and stakes are clear - there are no "gotcha" moments in my games. I include walk-throughs and player cheat sheets to provide options no matter your learning style. We'll play primarily with theatre of the mind, then move to grid maps for tactical encounters. Foes, terrain, and dynamic environments are the obstacles to important objectives; you won't just slog through a bag of monster HP and you'll get to make decisions beyond which baddie to hit with your sword. I score each session with music and ambience to set the scene, but players have full control over volume and can choose to mute entirely.

Safety
How Emma creates a safe table
We'll begin our session with the deck of player safety to anonymously bring attention to topics to avoid during play. We'll use Discord to share X cards in case anything unexpected shows up. We'll end the scene and get back to the fun! Players can step away from the table at any time, for any reason, during the session and will be welcomed back, no questions asked when they return.
