About the adventure

Have you ever wanted to slay a dragon and then use its remains to empower your spells, reinforce your armor, or craft a deadly weapon? Then you're in luck! Dawn of Dragons is an original homebrew Gritty Epic Fantasy for D&D 5E that will combine Heavy Roleplay and Heavy Combat to create session after session of nail biting - edge of your seat moments! Every journey will be a dance with death as you and your party traverse the harsh lands of Ekross protecting the lands from the dragon menace all while they hunt you. However, don't think that this will be a simple dragon hunting campaign as the continent is filled with political intrigue, secrets to unveil, and a delightful cast of NPCs to fall in love with or hate with every fiber of your being. If you enjoy campaigns requiring grit, collaboration, survival, and true danger to your characters then you are in the right place! This campaign takes heavy inspiration from Lord of the Rings, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dragon Age and Monster Hunter. - The First of Many! The Dawn of Dragons will be one of four grand epic campaigns in a series where each choice from one adventuring party might have impacts on others. Your choices shape the world as a whole culminating. Will your character survive to see the end or just be another footnote in history? - Roleplay Heavy (Your Choices Matter) Your choices will forever impact and change the continent of Ekross and the world of Etheri as a whole. While combat shapes your character's physical abilities be prepared to make alliances, pry the truth from double agents and protect those you are loyal to. - Unique Mechanics (Use the Slain Dragon to your benefit) Through the implementation of tables and rules from "The Game Master's Book of Legendary Dragons" you will be able to augment your spells, weapons and armor to further combat the dragons and enemies you'll encounter. - An Unforgiving World Death comes for us all. Be prepared to retreat... a lot. The continent of Ekross is not meant for the weak willed and devours weakness. Be mindful of every path you wander down and perhaps you'll survive long enough to see civilization again. - A Welcoming and Compassionate Environment Though the story is intense and gritty, I welcome all experience levels to my games. I create an immersive and exciting experience for you to explore and escape the real world with your party and an experienced storyteller who will welcome you back with laughter and open arms! We are a beginner friendly and LGBTQIA+ welcoming community with a strong focus on maintaining mental health!

About me

The GM with an infectious laugh, more dad jokes than you can handle, and a love for storytelling. I have been playing TTRPGs for about 18 years now and GMing for 16 of them. Since my days as a theatre kid in high school to now as an elementary school counselor, D&D and Pathfinder have always been a part of my life. I tend to write homebrew campaigns and homebrew worlds in which the players can truly have an impact on the overarching world in little to large scopes. I believe in player agency while also ensuring the comfort and enjoyment of all at my table. My goal is to create stories together that bring a spark of excitement and joy to your heart and eyes! I will always ensure that my Discord community and my sessions are a place of love, acceptance, and enjoyment. I heavily prioritize the safety of my players. This is a LGBTQ+ and allies safe space! Let's go on an adventure!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will use session zero to plan out our characters and where I can answer any burning questions you might have prior to session one. You can come with a fully fledged out character or no idea at all. We will start with level 2 characters.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a Discord account, Roll20 Account, and D&DBeyond account You will have access to a discord server to collaborate with other players from different campaigns in the same world and share stories!

What Charles brings to the table

I utilize music from Monument Studios to set the tone and include ambience sound effects. Even without combat players are encouraged to be on Roll20 to hear music and effects. I provide fresh voices for each NPC you may encounter. I embrace Rule of Cool when I can. I fully incorporate character backstories into campaign even if it requires rewriting scenes and villains.

Homebrew rules

Most homebrew rules will be discussed during session zero and are mentioned on the Discord Server. This particular campaign utilizes the Dragon Part Spell Component and Armor/Weapon Rules provided in "The Game Master's Book of Legendary Dragons".

Safety

How Charles creates a safe table

I send out a request to each player for their list of Lines and Veils that is completed anonymously. Afterwards I share a document that everyone has access to at all times. I also do my best to incorporate a short break half way through a session. After each session I send out a following message asking for stars and wishes that can be anonymous or not as this gives me the ability to modify my gming and future sessions to best fit the party as a whole.
